And pardon the welds, it was an unfamiliar welder with large wire that fed very fast.

FYI, its 49" from the ground to the bottom of the tire in those pics, and I still had more left but the tire was stuffed into the fender. Time for sawzall :D

Few words on how it went, nothing went wrong.

For you fullwidth guys, take the stock tierod and reverse the explorer drag link, BOLT ON!!!! :D

Shackle angle was perfect first try, and pinion angle is within reason. Its also getting a double cardagan square driveshaft  and the stock rear shaft for now until I get the 63" chevys in to make the rear flex like the front.

It needs custom brakelines, long ass travel shocks and limiting straps/ bumpstops.

The swap was sweet. I would say we each put 20 hours into it. Not record breaking but definately not slow. Especialy since we had to pretty much make any parts we used. Micah, please thank your uncle several times for use of his place.

DEFINATELY needs limit straps and bump stops.

Its also getting a double cardagan square driveshaft

They make sweaters that fit on Explorers?! And you're going to make it wear TWO?? Wow...!

If you need one, I have a spare double CARDAN driveshaft :D

Incidentally, I know why your swap went so easily and mine's been an ongoing nightmare....

TAKE YOUR COOTIES BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hammer:

Seriously, you've officially won the race, punk. AND it looks really good, so nyah :p: :D

(I love how Rookie's got protective gear on for once, yet he's not actually using it :D)

Well I am impressed guys, awesome job. I'm digin' the amount of flex you are getting there. Way to get over a few last minute hurdles to mak a killer setup. Maybe I really will invest in Rookie's mobile SAS business after all.

Is that diamond tread a carryover from previous SAS designs :D

So whats the next step?

Just curious as to why you went with shackle front instead of shackle rear?

Looks good though. Nice flex!!! What leafs are you using?

Well in this trucks case its pretty much trail only. So a shackle rear design would work out ok. However you also have to keep in mind when going super flexy where the axle and where the tire will go durring the full cycle. A shackle rear design means that when stuffing the tire goes towards the firewall. Well it can only go but so far and you can only trim back there but so much. If the shackles are forward you have the axle move forward when stuffing and you can cut up there TONS. In otherwords with the shackles forward you can have far more uptravel on the explorer. Otherwise we would have had to push the super long wheelbase out even further.

Also with the shackle forward you ca make the truck sit much lower then if you went with a rear shackle. MY SAS ended up at around 5-6" of lift. Hard to that with a rear shackle. Looks like it turned out well.

Got my superlift lines extended 16" today, should be plenty.

Shock measurements are 30 1/2" from tube to top of coil bucket extended, 14" compressed. Cutting the fenders soon to figure out what it is capable of, 17" of travel what?:D (IZ, are your airshocks for sale?)

Last piece of advice is for those of you considering a SAS, pay rookie whatever amount of money he wants (or buy him a forgien 4x4 :D ) to help with the swap. This swap wouldnt of been possible without him.

Thats the most flex i have seen on a leaf sprung explorer. Good job.

I second that. I couldn't believe it when i saw the pics. Props guys, excellent results!

So where did you hear about chevy springs being flexy? I've been wanting to get some better leafs for the rear but didn't know what to get.

the crowd over on pirate raves about them, ask around, redranger or rock ranger has a set in their rear, cant remeber which. Toyota guys usually swear by them.

I'd like to see some flex pics of them. Wonder how much they are?
