So I, Like most people on this forum would always like more power :p: , I would love to fully Rebuild on beast of a motor but I don't have the money for that...

These are relating to a 99' Explorer 5.0L 4r70w w/AWD, but will be true 4x4 before ethier setup...

(Setup 1)
So I looked into ethier boosting via turbo or S/C
Looked at STS but with offroading ruled that out...
Looked at mulitple setups with Superchargers and I figured that If I do end up boosting it I would prolly go with a Ford Racing Centrifugal supercharger @6psi, just because it is a decent price and it is a kit built just for the 5.0L Explorers.
Kit off of SummitRacing.com start at about 2k

OR...

(Setup 2)
Should I Look into adding a few more bolt-ons and internals such as cam and new rollers. If I went this route (as of now) I would prolly just use an e303 cam, 1.6 or 1.7 rollers with new valve covers, 1" intake spacer, TM headers, and pick up a Xcal 2
Full setup from SummitRacing.com for cam, rollers, intake spacer, and all the gear to go with that comes to about 1k + TMH and Xcal2 with custom tunes = about 2k also
but all of this stuff (from second setup) can usually be found off of Ebay or EF for a cheaper amount...

So these are ideas of mine right now, not full out plans...

What kind of numbers (Hp and Torque) can I be looking at for both setups?

Any out-weighing benifits that you guys can think of going with one setup over the other?

Any Other mods that I should add in to help out ethier setup (Ex: Bigger fuel pump, injectors, shift kit, Etc...)

I would be able to install the Supercharger as a kit, but I have never been "inside" a motor that deep so I would be looking for some guidiance on the second setup for sure...

Best driveability will come from a blower on the stock setup. One thing to remember is that you need to focus on a towing cam with good vacuum and torque being your primary concerns for wheeling. The E series cam you have picked is good for performance but not for the application you have mentioned above. If you decide the bolt on route a good tune will be inevitable either way you go. You will pick up more torque and hp with the positive displacement supercharger and won't have to rev to the moon!

I would go with the supercharger from Summit. You can get a 9psi pully if you ever decide you want more power- that along with a small A/W intercooler could make for a pretty powerful Explorer. The XP8 with that same supercharger is rated at 286hp and 333tq at 6psi, but add some Torque Monster headers and a tune from James and you can make much more.

Is there anyone who has a roots intercooled blower package for the 5.0s?

Ford Racings blower wont give you boost off the start, you need a roots blower :D, i wouldnt worry about intercooling under 6 PSI

Here is an idea from a non-need-for-speed guy (in my explorer anyway) and offroader.

Depending on the type of wheeling you do is how you should set this up. Do you haul ass down dirt roads, or do you keep it in 4lo for climbing stuff?

Haulin' ass down the dirt road/washes I would go for the supercharger.

If you're more the crawler type, I would rather get the low RPM torque stuff. I knew someone with a supercharger on his explorer and since we are usually crawling with occasional fast speeds down the wash, it was...useless.

Just another point of view and my

A positive displacement supercharger would add power from right off idle. That gives you full boost on the lower rpm range, instead of just up high. The EE supercharger is that kind, but for $3800 and only 6psi it isn't very efficient.

Yeah, I would love to have it supercharged but like you said at $3800...The only reason I would go with a cam and all the other things is it is a one mod plus another so I wouldn't need all the money at once I could do tuner, headers, then all internal work but I am still not sure what I would like to do yet...might end up deciding I don't need any more power..

Forget the centri supercharger for offroading. The best fit for your intended use will be that EE M90 blower. Just go with some numerically larger gears and more bolt-ons.

You seem like you are not very sure of things so just keep it simple for now until the path you want to take appears in front of you.

I agree completly Rob, that is why I mentioned the positive displacement super early on in this post. If he really wanted to throw a little money to boot then a screw would work better than the Heaton. I would never recommend a centrifugal to an off roader.

Damn you V8 guys!!!

Jah is only 6 and will smoke pretty much anybody who posted in this thread...

No, he will smoke everybody in this thread, except me. That V6 of his boogies.

Yeah, thats why I said pretty much everybody...I wasn't sure inbetween the two of you.....I know they have approx caculations and you can kind of figure what a 1/8th mile pass will equal in the quater but I would love to see some 1/4 times from him...

I would love to pull up next to my friends in ethier there 6.0 goat, modded T/A, or S/C mustang and give them a run for their money....but I am sure they would love to pull up next to me at the mud pits or crawl next to me...

Once James runs his X in the 1/4 it should hit a 12.7 or 12.8 or so. Maybe faster depending on his launch on those slicks.

You haven't made 12's yet have you?...If you have I missed that...

Though I have not hit the track this year my truck is easily good enough for 11's in the 1/4 mile now. I ran into a small leak that I wanted to get corrected before going to the track. Ended up getting busy with other large projects instead. This winter the leak will be fixed.
