I got this explorer back in 2004 when I was 15 from my mom. It had a blown transmission that I had to get replaced. Since then I have modified it. The only bolts I haven't turned would be on the original motor.

This picture was taken when I spend most of my day washing and waxing it with McGuire's 3 step wax system.... boy did it shine!

nice explorer...when u took the door moldings off..was it just tape or was there little holes to fill in??been wanting to do it to my 92

There is no holes or clips, it was just adhesive tape. Four0Sport is right about it being a pain... Some paint came off with mine! Luckily for me rustoleum spray paint has a gloss black that matches great with my paint to cover up any battle scars.

The tires are 33 x 10.50's. I just dropped off my spare rim at the tire place to get a full size spare. It is the same rim so now I can rotate 5 tires.

I am so anxious to get the gearing done... looking at all the parts I have not being put to use is bugging me. When the axles are done, the fun will begin swapping them in!

Another update. I got my front differential back from More than tires with my 4.56 r&p installed and setup. I installed the PowerTrax Lock Right myself. So now I am driving around without the rear drive shaft in front wheel drive until my rear end gets set up. That lock right is awesome and behaves really well on the street compared to what other people had me thinking.

I can't wait to get this thing finished so I can enjoy all the money and time I put into this thing. Then I can get some wheelin' photos/ videos, instead of web wheeling all the time!

My explorer has been done for a little while now. I am totally in love with it! I have been busy wheeling with my buddies lately. The gear ratio is perfect for everything I do, but if I had to do it over again I would have went with 4.88 cause of how much money I spent on gearing and lockers. The 4.56's put it a good bit torquier than stock and I have no problem getting the tires rolling!

Just wanted to throw up pictures of my rock crusher diffy cover powder coated by Turdle and a picture of me playing on a tiny rock in front of my place.

More updates and future explorer enhancements

Here's what the good old Detroit looks like with the 4.56 jegs gears. I wanted to change my gear oil in them anyways, but the oil that came out of it looked new, piece of mind I guess lol

I need new fenders. This side is completely rotted at the bottom and is now being held on with some big ol' zip ties.

I attended the All Truck Nationals on Saturday. 4 Wheel Parts gave me a good deal on rims that I could not pass up. They are the pro comp 98-5865 15X8" 3.75" Backspacing. They retail for about 58.99 each on their site. Got em for $54 each and free shipping. X4 @ $216. Off their site it would have totaled $246.80

Since I need new fenders, I am thinking about getting 35's mounted on my new rims and making them fit. I can cut my front fenders for now, put the lift shackles back on the rear end, and worse comes to worse I can buy the flared fiber glass fenders from mcneilracinginc.com.

What do you all think?

cut and fold the fenders you have.. couple guys on the site have done it and it looks great IMO.

I had contemplated the snorkel when I had my stock airbox still in, but dont think I really need it. I was top of bumper deep in some creek crossings last weekend w/out any trouble, no water splashing up against the cone filter. I do need to build a half box to prevent up splash and to reduce the engine heat getting sucked in though.

your truck is looking good.. cheap mods are the best! haha

I got these through JcWhitney for $857 shipped to my door and $32 to get them mounted. They ride great for not being balanced when they warm up!

nice rig...i like the 35s after rollling around on 33s I seem almost kinda small...oh well future holds surprises

Buffalo meat?

Thanks for the compliments guys. I love how strong I built the bumpers cause I can use them to determine where trees are at when making tight maneuvers in the woods. aka bump stops! lol

sweet explorer. i really like how you did your snorkel, is there any build threads on here with that set up?

Yeah search pvc snorkel in several different forums. That is what I did for ideas for mine. If I had it to do over again I would have used 3" pipe, but then I would have had to route it differently cause 2" was tight behind the fender.

EDIT:
The PVC snorkle was a waste of time. It robbed fuel economy and power because of only being 2". I never get into water or mud so it was a waste of time. It was one of my young and dumb mods!

Here's my explorer in getting its solid axles. That is a full width ford 8.8 axle.

It's hard to tell when I will be done. I wish to have it ready for when snow flies... who knows?? lol I just got done working on it. I got the coil buckets mounted and the front axle hanging. I doubt i will work on it again til next weekend. I need to start remembering to take more pictures.

Thanks for the compliment on the limited man.
