BMXking's Axle Swap 1st gen. Coils/Radius Arms!!!

Well, I finally decided to start a thread on it. For those of you who don't know, I will be doing a full-width swap. High-Pinion Dana 44 front and Ford 9" rear. I am still looking for the HP D44, but I picked up the 9" Monday. I have never really done a lot of work on axles, so this will definitely be a long process, but I have already done a lot of research about this(and am still learning a TON). Since everyone was saying I should run a CV/double cardan joint at the front of my driveshaft, I started looking around for one and seeing if it would push the driveshaft back far enough to bolt up to the 9". I measured the CV on the front driveshaft (also a 1310) and it looks like it will match up perfectly. Since the front is still 3.50s, I might be pulling the front driveshaft and running the CV from that on the rear driveshaft. Then I'll look around for another stock Explorer front driveshaft w/ CV and run that one up front.

Pics from a few days ago. Got newer pics on the camera waiting to be uploaded.

Thanks. :) You can look forward to 21robbie21's thread. :D We're trying to find a Waggy 44 so I'll be helping him rebuild it all. It'll go a lot quicker b/c I've got all the tools needed for it (minus a welder) and have all the "easy ways" to rebuild it fresh in my head. :D

EDIT: I just found the part number to order a precision h yoke (for the double cardan/CV joint) for 42 bucks at Advance Auto Parts. I'll just need to get the u-joints then. Or I can buy an entire front driveshaft from the junkyard for 17 bucks and run that one on the front with the one from the front (I know for a fact it's in good condition) on the rear driveshaft. Here's the part numbers for anyone interested.

p/n - 10153 (1310 u-joints for CV) $10.50 x2
p/n - 647 (H-yoke for CV joint) $43.99
p/n - 10134 (1310 to 1330 ******* u-joint) $10.50

EDIT #2: The junkyard with the driveshafts for 12 bucks doesn't have any fronts for Explorers or Rangers. The other junkyard with the 17 dollar driveshafts doesn't have any either. Everyone else wants 125+ :( So I guess I'll get the parts from AAP.

Bryan, how far do the tires stick out from the body with the Full width? and what BS are you runnig on the wheels?

I'm running 4.25" BS. I don't have any pics of how far the front or the rear stick out, but I'll get some this afternoon.

looking good...wating on these new pics.

man i cant wait till robbie gets his going cause he goes to my school...is he gettin a t case and makin it 4 wheel drive ?

Cool, I didn't know y'all went to the same school! He's gonna find an axle and rebuild it and later on (unless he finds a great deal now) put in a 4x4 trans w/ a manual 1354 most likely :)

Bryan.. just so you know.. that 44 waggy axle for sale that you sent him to is a wide trac... meaning it's gonna look funny under his rig with an 8.8. If he's going full width.. never mind.

yep we do i havent talked to him in a while tho but i was trying to get him to come offroadin with me sometime

lookin great bryan cant wit to see it in person

bmx king is a pimp

pics look good, i really like those tires, and im pumped for mine, glad i have you, cause otherwise id be screwed :) and you say u have everything but a welder, and js91x i think does, atleast his sig suggests it, so with our powers combined we will do a solid axle swap! lol and jason were you referring to the one on oldschooloffroad.org?

Your spindle nuts are on the way, lol.

He shipped them to me with the ford hubs, whoops.

your ex is looking good, i bet you cant wait to get it on the trail.

Thanks Jey :)

Chopperx - I want it on the trail, but I'd be happy with just being able to drive it again!

Here are the newer pics.
