Snowball 94 Limited

So I'm looking at fixing my A/C this summer. I've never had a car with it so it's not a big deal to me but we use it from time to time to make family trips and I'd like to have it.

On my parts list I have...
Accumulator~$20
Orifice Tube~$2
Then a professional refill which I haven't priced yet but I hear it is about $70.

Anything else I should replace while I'm at it?

I know the system works cause I filled it a little last summer when I topped of my moms minivan but I only put in just enough to stop it from cycling on and off. It didn't last long though as I could hear it hissing out the accumulator.

The Curse of Running Boards...

Well just noticed this weekend the there is rust popping up under the running boards on both sides at the back of the running boards. Now I know I knew they would cause Rust but not as quick as it has happened. When I bout the truck there was no rust back there now I can stick my knife through it with ease.:thumbdwn:

So after school gets out I'll be pulling the boards off and seeing how bad it is. Hopefully it's not terrible and I'll be able to clean it up and paint it and put the boards back on. Can't get rid of them as Mom, Sis, and my girlfriend all use them to get in. Plus I kinda like the look.

The wonderful rust...

You should start on that soon, it will probably require some new metal there. Buy some Rust Dissolver first, that's the best thing for spraying rust in areas that you cannot get to.

Most likely starting Thursday. Hoping it doesn't need new metal as I don't have a welder. Guess I could try some of the metal epoxy but I don't know how well it would work.

Where could I get the rust dissolver? I plan to pain it all with the Walmart Colorplace rust paint as several people on here have said it works better than any of the expensive products.

Sorry to pull up old posts, but I love those Definities. Once you get some experience with them, keep us posted as I've been looking at tires for awhile and the tread on those are great.

Eastwood has the best line of rust products you can use. I like the Rust Dissolver because it sprays just like water. It's designed for soaking rusted parts in it for a while, but I love it just to spray on any rust. It seeps into cracks which no other product can do, that makes it the best for the tough chassis rust like you have. It's over $30 a gallon, but worth it.

That rust is probably all throughout that lower section under the doors. The holes that the molding is mounted with give you access to that cavity, and it's also where the rust starts.

Not old at all. I've been meaning to update on them as I took them off-road the other day and they did great. I took them up the access road to the cross and they did great. The road was kinda wet from rain the day before but they never slipped once. Last time I tried to get up when it was dry my tires slipped a lot and I had to put in 4Low but this time I used 4High and pretty light on the gas.

I really hope it's not all throughout the panel cause I don't have the ability to replace them.

Guess I'l just get the boards off and just go from there...

Hmm, to be completely honest, I never really expected that from Definity. I don't do much off-roading since I have 2WD, but I really just like the look and they're reasonably cheap. Being a DD, I'm just debating whether to get 30's or 31's. Amazing truck though, I would do anything for a nice Limited.

For rust you need to stop it as soon as possible. It keeps growing, so if you just expose it and spray it to stop it where it's at, that's much better than waiting longer.

Ok got the boards off today...

Not as big as I expected I was thinkin I would need new doglegs. I figured its small enough that I can just make a patch panel. So I went to Home Depot and got a sheet of 26gauge metal for 5$.

I statred on the passenger side and cut out all the rusty metal till I hit solid.
I then took a wire wheel and a grinding stone and ground off all the rust on the inside and sprayed with primer.

I got my patch for this side cut out and tomorrow I'm gonna be epoxying it in and then painting.

My plan is to leave the boards off for the week then next weekend when I get paid get some undercoating and coat the whole rocker panel to hopefully prevent any more rust.

Tranny's treatin me pretty good. It was replaced 20,000mi before I bought it. I plan to install and extra tranny cooler and a second filter sometime this summer to keep her goin strong. I will hopefully one day lift it but only 2in with shackles and coil spacers.

I think to clear 33s you need at least 3in of lift.

Got the hole all patched up today. So no more rust holes hopefully. I'm leavin the boards off for the week though. Next weekend I'm going to sand and pain the rockers with under body paint to hopefully prevent any rust from happening.

Busy Day...

Very busy day today. Got a ton of stuff done that I had been wanting to do for awhile.

I first started off with finishing my rust prevention by taping off and sanding all surface rust of the rockers and doglegs. I then gave them 2 coats of ColorPlace Rust Prevention spray paint.

After that I moved to painting some things on the truck that had faded or got chipped.

Started with all the wiper arms.
utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTEwNDI5LTAwMDIzLmpwZw.jpg

I then moved to the mirrors.
utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTEwNDI5LTAwMDI0LmpwZw.jpg

Each of them got 3-4 coats of Krylon Fusion Gloss Black.

I then took a little break from painting and installed my auto down module on the passenger side. That was simple and straight forward.
I then moved to trying the auto up on the drivers side again. I succeed this time and as promised a write-up is coming soon.
utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTEwNDI5LTAwMDI2LmpwZw.jpg

Next it was back to painting again. I did the panels on the hatch (not sure of technical name)
Before.

After.

utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTEwNDI5LTAwMDM0LmpwZw.jpg

These got 4-5coats of the Krylon and then 3coats of some clear enamel to add some protection. It came out great!

After that I tore down the running boards to paint the step part.
utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTEwNDI5LTAwMDM2LmpwZw.jpg

These only got about 2coats cause I then ran out of paint.

Gonna get another can and finish it all up probably next weekend.
To do:
  • Door Handels
  • Roof Cross Bars
  • Pillars

Edit: Auto Up Link

To Do list for tomorrow.

On Tomorrow's agenda after work..
  • Assemble Running Boards
  • Wire LEDs into running boards
  • ReInstall Running boards

Oh whats the best thing to remove over-spray from glass? I didn't cover enough of it and the wind didn't help me either but I'd rather it be on glass then the pain though.

Nice photos, you make me want to get back into photography now.

Looks good, you might want to try some "Whink Rust Stain Remover" and get those streaks off your back window :D
