Barack Obama linked 2nd gen. SAS

Is anyone else on the forum running air shocks yet? I was going to try a set out and post up when I got it in........then my tranny blew out. It was going to be a top secret modification then show it off if it worked. Best of luck on it, I'm pulling for ya.

5.13

and best of all, zero miles on the axle :D

Is that the dead hooker under the blue tarp?

LOL yeah she's getting "swapped" too

Nice, so install all that stuff this weekend.
I wish, this weekend hopefully I will finish removing the IFS. The weather on the east coast has been ill tho - so much freaking rain. And I'm going to do all of this on my friend's driveway so no roofesus.

One important thing I need to look into is how to get the ABS ring into this 14-bolt or else I'll have no speedo. Or maybe I can move it outwards near the rotor.

Yes I think BuzzisCrazy2 is, but its on like an F350 or 250 or something.

Make use of the torch. It will be so much easier than doing it all with a grinder/sawz-all.

I've been using the grinder/sawz-all deal. But I'll give the torch a try if the weather dries.

I'm waiting on the guy on Pirate to send me the C&C hubs. But I guess the hubs arent that important cauz it'll probably be easier to swap them out once the axle is on the vehicle (to torque down the bolt hubs).

Tomorrow I have stop by the steel shop and order more flat stock for brackets and stuff. Other minor things that I still need to get are the wheels (which I need to order tonight along with perches for the 14-bolt) and the TRE's.

EDIT: here are the el-cheapO chimichanga wheels I'm going with, they're unpainted :D

The 2.5" backspacing is going to make steering a little hard (lets not mention hydro just yet) but its required to clear the ginormous 8-lug calipers.

Wheels have been painted (they came bare remember) and are drying - I hope to have tires mounted tomorrow and have a pair bolted to the rear axle - this will give me an idea how high up the front will go.

Tested the wheels on the rear axle for caliper clearance and found no problem at all :D

I don't like it.

Yes. Keep up the good work! What's after wheels/tires?

1) 8.8's rear brake caliper fitting does not match the 14-bolt's fitting .. doi- GM and Ford
slow.gif
So that needs to be looked at.

2) since I have a 98, the speedometer's readings are taken from the ABS sensor on the 8.8's differential. Well the 14-bolt doesnt have a tone ring or an ABS sensor on it. So I've been thinking where to put a tone ring and a sensor. The differential is out of the question, its too tight in a 14-bolt. I was debating between the transfer case or inside the transmission's tailshaft housing. The transmission's tailshaft housing would have been ideal since its enclosed but the problem with this route is that the speedo reading would be taken before a dynamic gear ratio (at the transfer case) so at 4LO, the speedometer would be showing over twice the actual speed and I think the transmission's computer uses the same sensor to shift - so I dunno if thats going to affect the transmission. So the only solution would be at the transfer case's output flange - which should work out nicely because that's where the E-brake is going to be (a transfer case brake) so I'll try to incorporate all of that into one unit or something. But this is lower in priority -- I need the vehicle rolling in a month because I am moving (about two miles north-west :D )

3) Finish removing the IFS. I still have most of the front suspension for safety reasons - I dont want to work on a vehicle supported only by jackstands

so I decided to keep the front suspension for now while the rear axle is swapped.

4) Mock up the links and so on... ...........................

You need some more jack stands.
no $$ - buying 1350 weld-on yokes :p

Yay, so i can copy you for the speedo issue. If you know already, where are you getting your t-case mounted speedo thingie? :D

Wow! Great project! Suscribed!

with the tone ring for the speedo in my truck we put it on the driveshaft and built a bracket to hold the sensor. speedo doesn't work but it got rid of my cel so i can get it inspected. i bought a aftermarket speedo but never installed it. been driving without a speedo for over a year. just go off my rpm's.
