<--------------doesn't weld.

I can give you directions to Hunter offroad and show you how to swipe a credit card if you want my best help on a cage

LOL but I can appreciate your honesty and I thought I was the only one who doesn't know how to weld:(

You're not alone.

tried it, sucked at it, used a shizzy welder, decided I'll leave that to the pros.

So it's not that I can't, I just can't do it right.

The only thing I've ever welded was some nuts on my flatbed to mount the brake lights. After about 2 hours and 16 birds nests in the welder I vowed to never touch a crappy welder again and don't see the need to get a good one.

It's getting close to go time!

Need to figure out the seats to go with.

Anybody have experience with Giant seats? They are a hell of a lot cheaper than Beard, Mastercraft or even the brands in JC Whitney (I was shopping the 15% off sale for tomorrow)

Mastercrafts!!!!!!
Peri's a great gal!!

I went to the Offroad Expo in Phoenix yesterday. I figured out that for my application I want to go with

16" travel 3.0 triple bypass shocks (eek, $1000 per side)
4-beard or Mastercraft seats ($400 each).

If you guys are scanning craigslist or any other forums and see anything let me know.

BEARD???:thumbdwn: MASTERCRAFTS!!!!!!!!!!!
JK...I'm looking for those scattered parts we talked about.
I'll let you know.
Joe ;) ;) ;)

i was gonna say you need some triple bypass's!!!!!! (and hydro bumps)

are you actually going to try to build your truck to race specks?

well, that depends on what "race specs" are. There are so many classes BUT, I am going to build a cage that will pass tech inspection. I don't see anything happening for a few years but I have done so many things in the past and then done them again a little beefier that I'm doing it to the fullest.

Here's how a conversation went with me at the offroad expo talking about shocks. (I tried to sound as innocent and not ****y as possible hoping I could learn something)

Dan: So I've got this old Explorer, don't laugh cause I kinda do everything with it and it's getting a cage and I want to run my shocks into the cab when I cage it, what do you suggest. It's a 4x4 but I try to go fast too.

sales rep: well, it depends on a lot of things. You are going to fully cage it in?

Dan: Yip, all the way to the frame

Rep: well it depends on how your suspension is set up to handle this.

Dan: well some company out of So Cal called Autofab put a kit with 18" of travel, it's got an 11 leaf sprung under pack with limiting straps, stabilizer bars and it had 4 shocks but I was told they were mounted at an angle so they didn't work as well. It's got some really cool trussed out 9" rear end and relocated ball joints on the front end. (guy looks at me like, okay, well this guy does know what the hell he's talking about)

sales rep: okay well depending on how you drive it you could probably get away with some 2.0s or 2.5 smoothies. How would you describe your driving style

Dan: Basically the truck was totally out of control when I got going over 60 in some whoops. I thought I was going to land like a lawn dart. Everybody who wheels with me pretty much says I'm Youtube material and that I'm one of the craziest drivers they've seen.

sales rep: Hmm, you probably need to get something adjustable for rebound. You probably have problems with breaking stuff too?

Dan: Yeah, you could say that. What would you say if I wanted a shock that I CANNOT outdrive?

sales rep: Well in that case I think you need a 3.0 triple bypass. Probably way overkill for your scenario, but it sounds like you need to go that route.

Dan: Holy ****, $2,000 in shocks I paid $2500 for the whole truck!

sales rep: you bought all that for $2500!

Dan: Well, um, yeah, but I didn't really know what I was buying so I didn't think it was all that cool until about a year after I bought it.

Oh yeah RJ, keep your eyes peeled for some seats for me. You're the Craigslist Race Desert classified junkie.

4-beard or Mastercraft seats ($400 each).

I have the mastercrafts in my truck, the rubicon model I think. Best seats I have ever sat in, worth every penny.

I've got to stop listening to XM and watching Satellite TV!! I never heard a thing about that :( I guess the network channels are good for something:dunno:

danny! get your ass onto desert rangers! lots of broke college kids on there offloading the shocks and seats their parents bought them in high school.....

Whoah! Where you been? Are you here or in Tejas?

Rick-

The show was pretty cool, they had some motorcycles and a jeepspeed cherokee that ran the Baja 1K that even had the dirt still on them.

BUT to my disappointment it was about 60% Rhinos and side by side gear.

I took a few photos but honestly there was only a few rock rigs and plenty of sand rails that did nothing for me.

I did get some ideas for my cage from the jeepspeed rig.

Oh yeah, this cage IS happening, truck goes in Friday!

And I just got word that my brother is done with his 93 XLT and is GIVING it to me. only like 95K but lots of WI rust.

I'm going to probably hack the body apart and maybe run the rear fiberglass bedsides on that rig. Can't decide if I'll throw my 44 & 8.8 axles under that or look at caging that for a "stock" race truck class. Now I just need to get that hunk out here from Wisco. I know I'm a long ways from any racing BUT it's never too soon to build up the fleet. The blue truck would make one hell of a prerunner.

hey danny, if you get coilovers, buy fox 2.5's, and i'll give you mine for a song.....homeboy hookup.

I think I found some triple bypass shocks for $1150 for tha pair. They are 2.5s but for the grand I would save I'll probably try that out and gamble with any fade.

I'm not running hours at a time at high speeds.

Jason, the front is only changing with new shocks for the time being.
