[Lockhart Basin] ....So you plan to do it Monday, camp, and drive out Tuesday, right?

Yep that's the plan. And yes there's a huge difference between it and Flat Iron Mesa, LOL. I've never been on Lockhart Basin but it doesn't look scary at all; I just don't want to do it alone, it's way to remote.

I wouldnt mind doing the Arches park trails again either. Gerald, if you do that on a Saturday or Sunday I would tag along.

Well I won't be doing it Sunday so it looks like Saturday would be it. Let's plan on Saturday :)

That'll mean that I'll be doing TOTW on Friday I guess.

Couple questions about items needed for this trip.

1. Do I need a spare tire that is the same size? Meaning will my factory spare tire be good enough, to get me out of situations. Stock size is approx 28", I now have 33".
In order to get a 33" spare I would have to get a pre-runner style mount and place it in the bed, which then affects my toolbox with all the other stuff. Roof rack is pretty expensive.

2. Was looking at getting a Hi-Lift jack but I cant see where I could lift my ST with it. (Too much plastic) Anyone have any ideas where the hi-lift would go on a Sport Trac? This item is a must have because my stock jack wont lift high enough for a roadside emergency either.

I'll be at the City Market Friday about 9:00am.

Gerald I'm up for whatever you do on Friday. Would like to check out the dino tracks though.:D

Ok, just got my reservation at Canyonlands Campground, RV site! We will be arriving on Thursday night and leaving Sunday night. Two tow vehicles each with a bronco in tow, and we're just gonna sleep in the enclosed car trailer.

We'll be at the City Market at 9am Friday morning.

Chad if I were you I would make a full size spair fit somehow. Just my 2 cents;)

agread with above....i believe u can fit a 33" have u tried? i fit them under explorers all the time....

So my girlfriend really wants to go... but she just got hired as a lifeguard for the summer and has to be back in lubbock TX by Monday the 21st at 3pm at the latest, but after moab I'm headed in the opposite direction to cali

were trying to get her from moab to lubbock with a minimum of missing out on things...not to mention minimizing driving, and cost as well.

any ideas?

What trails are you planning in arches Saturday?

Does Rick have any trails planned yet for Saturday or Sunday?

I totally agree (back in the day Jared '6 tire' Doty went through 2 spares-although stock size- in one weekend of moderate wheelin' in AZ.. I know I was there :D ;) ). Because I have a sport trac I can tell you that if you place your fullsize spare up-right and AGAINST the tailgate in the bed... and strap it to the low tie-downs supplemented with a high strap on the upper (furthest bact to the tailgate) tiedowns... you know the boat dock ones ;) pulling tension of the tire against the tailgate... you will be fine. Granted I have 32's but it'll fit fine (you will have to unclip and remove the bed extender if you have one). You rear vision will be impeded with this method, but it will surely work....and just lock your tailgate, strap it and wheel.

Do you have 15" wheels now (i.e., with 33x12.50x15's) and have a 16" wheel on your stock spare (with a 255 75 16)? If this is the case you can try to get a used 265 75 16 or taller tire with good tread and use that as a temporary spare. Just try to get the overall diameter as close to your actual tire diameter (for gearing reasons) and a spare of this kind will get you by. ;)

I personally wouldn't worry about getting a high-lift yet.... bring a thicker block of wood and pick up a (larger than stock) bottle jack from Wal-Mart. You will be fine and save space and weight. Hope this clears up your questions. PM me if you have any other 'trac questions.

Thanks for the info. My tires are actually 285/70/17 which comes out ot 32.8". I have not tried to fit a 32-33" tire in the factory location yet! I just want to make sure I am self sufficient at Moab.

I am considering/looking into getting spare CV axles, and wheel hubs to bring with me , although I dont see a need for them since I do not have a front locker.

My ST has the 4.10 LS option in it, but I am looking into adding a locker for the rear.

Wow... if you're running stock brakes I gotta give you credit  for your wheel and tire combo  . For what it's worth I wouldn't worry about the spare cv's and hubs... granted if $ isn't a problem they might get you out of a bind sometime in the future. But if you're careful and easy on the skinny pedal you should be alright on moderate trails.

I squeezed a 265 75 16 spare into my stock location (which is about a 31.7" or so) but I often take it out and put it into the bed in the aforementioned fashion.

I would be more worried about skid plating and armor personally... but then again I am not nearly as lifted as you are :D . I would SERIOUSLY invest in Wells' Moab book if you don't have it for general reference to trail ratings and terrain. www.traildamage.com is a wealth of information on Moab trails with (relatively) current photos in case you are enterprising enough to do one of the 'unscheduled' trail runs on Fri or Monday.

Klondike Bluffs and Tower Arch (trails #1 and #2 in the Wells book). Klondike Bluffs ends near where Tower Arch begins so it's an easy thing to connect doing the two trails one after the other.
