New 5.0L Headers are HERE!

Have you thought about dropping the steering column an inch or two under the dash?
what about a double CV custom steering shaft setup?

Eek!!! I wonder if a 2" BL would screw it up....I still have the stock shaft thou...

Damn I was looking forward to your results.

Take the damn steering shaft out. You don't need to steer.

Yeah. It will work fine if you don't have the extension in.

As for the plugs, the passenger side was simple to do. No harder than the FMS headers.

Jamie.. by dropping the steering shaft.. you mean relocating it lower on the firewall? I wonder if there is a way to get more length from the steering wheel shaft part.

I'm actually going to take the extension over to my Dad's shop and have them rework it.

Yeah I am not sure about the second Gen with the IFS but on the first Gen it shouldnt be too much to install some spacers on the bracket under the dash and move the whole thing down and inch or so.......take a look behind the dash, under the wheel.
the firewall is just a bushing to keep the weather out is it not?

Why not just weld in a section of tube instead of the extender?

Wait a better idea - I don't think these are going to work for you. I will give you $500 for those now used headers :smoke:

Ha. Thats the idea I had though! (The extender one). I have the whole shaft out now.. from both sides of the firewall. Going to take it to be lengthened.

I have 90% of the problem solved. I'll be using the steering extension off a 3" F150 body lift kit. It is installed under the dash, so all the steering shaft stays slim and trim under the hood. So this would be an easy enough fix for the one or two people who happen to have V8 Explorers, with body lifts, who want to drop dough on these headers.

Here is a picture of the header installed. Mighty close.. but I started it up and even with the e-cam at idle, it doesn't make contact anywhere.

SWEET! How does it run man!?

Can't run it with no steering! :D Plus, I just mounted that one as little as possible for fit testing. But I did start it up and it sounded like I had one hell of an exhaust leak! :p

Tomorrow, I'll have the thing on (with gaskets) and I'll be able to run it and get some videos and stuff. Just won't be able to steer for a couple days.

You sure it won't hit from torque steer when you punch it off the line? You have beefy engine mounts?

aw come on you don't need to steer. :)

Typhoon: torque steer is a condition in FWD cars where the TQ from the FWD pulls the steering wheel a certian directon. :) If his mounts are fine the engine shouldn't move much thou.

I use the term torque steer to describe when an engine torques over and literally steers your car/truck hard to the left. Not just FWD cars get it. My Typhoon was AWD and would shift the truck hard left on a launch. He sounds like he's making some decent HP, and I'm sure the stock motor mounts aren't designed for a beatng. Since he said his steering column was pretty close to the header, I just wanted to make sure he was aware of it.

The steering shaft will "self-clearance" on the header over time. Nothing to worry about. :D ;)

James... where's all my power and torque?

Its sitting inside that blower in the For Sale section. :flipoff:

Dunno... what exhaust are you running? What were the actual numbers? (i cant read the graph) How many passes did you make stock, and how many passes with the headers? What's your fuel pressure look like? What kind of programming have you done?

I made 5 passes.. all with the FMS headers. Actual numbers were 191.53HP 217.38TQ. I have the Apten chip tuned for all my current mods (plus exhaust). Right now I am running the Ford exhaust cat-back system. :D Okay.. its still stock!

You answered your own question.:D Sen-say says- "One can not pour 20lbs. of **** in a bag that will only hold 10lbs."

Okay. I'm going to put exhaust on it. And if I don't dyno 50 more ponies and 80 for ft lbs.. I'll be showing up at your doorstep.

Damn skippy Section. whoop some ass :)

of course I could always find that power for ya with a little blue bottle :)
