I am going to mount the lower control arms to the leafs. Then take out the torsion bars.

badass... that would be like that sweet extra coil that a few of the folks here put in their contol arms a while back... like james. :D but the leaf setup would be so much more bling.

Yea, leave it under there like that and use the lower control arms as a bumpstop. Leave the torsion bars on it, and it will be a nice progressive rate bumpstop. :D

I like the idea of building it all while the IFS is still on the truck. Makes a SAS look more attainable for me. Want to make me a front crossmember???:):)

For the spring shackle hanger - move it back till it's almost vertical when you have no weight on the spring. The springs will flatten out when you add weight, and they will move up 2-3 inches.

I agree. I set my shackle one inch closer to the front hanger then it is on a jeep to give me a bit more shackle angle. It worked out perfect. I think your shackle should be at the angle it is now when the weight of the truck is sitting on it.

Also where does the center pin end up in relation to the IFS? IE how far forward/reverse will your front axle be moved.

2" forward. I really didn't have a choice. But it shouldn't be too bad that much forward. What's yours Matt?

I think I am forward 2-3" About as far forward as I could go to keep the steering from hiitting when I go to a true HIsteer.

Here's the mounts ready to go on the frame. They'll be gusseted (of course) but you get the idea. Frame goes on the short side.

Now let's talk crossmembers. Since I'll be completely removing the one the control arms mount to, should I add another one between the tranny and the front members? What has everyone done? It seems like with that crossmember gone the motor could cause a lot of flex and vibration. Do you think the tranny crossmember can stay unmolested? Or will I have to hack away for the driveshaft? :p

I think the tranny member can be saved, I plan to leave mine alone, My other though was to make a new cross member for under the engine, but use the mounts from the original front axle under the engine mounts ;)

That is potentially a great idea! :D

I just looked through 034x4's thread and checked out his driveshaft. I think I am screwed because my Advance Adapters... adapter put my transfer case at least 5" rearward. I guess I'll throw everything together and get to that part when I get there.

thats exactly what im going to be doing. im going to bend a little tube throw some bushings on the ends and use the old IFS diff mounts.

2" forward will be nice, as you will be able to run more tire with less ride height. Its easy to trim the front part of the fenders but you can only trim that rear corner so much.

You've already mounted a new front crossmember. ;) Thats more that I did for a couple years before adding the winch mount. I didn't have to touch the trans crossmember, but thats partly because the Atlas makes for a shorter driveshaft. If your CV joint is really 5" back, then you may have problems.

Heres pictures of mine....just some examples

I think Jefe has it right - your front cross member is more than enough.

is it possible i leave the exhisting cross member from the ifs there or is there gonna be some intereference issues with steering and what not?
