man i have to read that story a couple of times before i got the jist of it. it be interesting to see what happens as we get closer to the time line in the story.

Just heard 1 week from today, the snow level will be down to 3000ft :eek:

So... Big Bear snow day run on Saturday the 20th:D

Anyone?:p:

Although not even sure I can make it:(

We know we are due for a winter storm sometime this year.

"Temperatures in Siberia, Russia will be -81 degrees this week, " "With those type of temperatures the arctic air mass has to spill somewhere

Lol. Don't put too much faith in those links. Kevin was laughed off mountain message boards for making the same kind of "50 year storm" or "major weather event" predictions a half a dozen times last year, zero of which materialized. That's not to say it won't happen... but his credibility and track record are questionable even by forecasting standards.

The good news is quite a few meteorologists with more than a year or two of BS in their portfolios are also predicting a nice, cold storm, so it looks like there should be some good snow on the way .

I've been watching the forecasts as well, although it's still to early for them to guesstimate amounts. Everyone seems to agree that there is a moderate chance for it to begin snowing sometime Saturday afternoon, and that the unstable air-mass will remain over the area until at least Wednesday.

Snow or no snow, it's going to be getting real cold around here...

...If I had some spare cash I would run up the back side on monday...:)

A DEEP LOW PRESSURE TROUGH DEVELOPING OVER THE WEST WILL SEND A
SERIES OF WEATHER SYSTEMS INTO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA NEXT
WEEK...BRINGING PERIODS OF RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW AT TIMES.

THE FIRST CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION WILL BE THIS WEEKEND AS THE MARINE
LAYER RAPIDLY DEEPENS. A BETTER CHANCE OF MORE SIGNIFICANT
PRECIPITATION WILL BE MONDAY AND TUESDAY WHEN A STRONGER STORM MOVES
INLAND. COOLER WEATHER WITH PERIODS OF RAIN WILL CONTINUE THROUGH
MUCH OF NEXT NEXT WEEK.

PRELIMINARY RAINFALL ESTIMATES THIS WEEKEND THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF
NEXT WEEK RANGE FROM ABOUT ONE TO TWO INCHES WEST OF THE
MOUNTAINS...TWO TO FOUR INCHES ON THE WEST FACING MOUNTAIN SLOPES
AND UP TO ABOUT AN INCH IN THE DESERTS.

SNOW LEVELS WILL START OUT ABOVE 7000 FEET AND THEN LOWER TO ABOUT
4000 TO 5000 FEET MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...ALTHOUGH IT COULD GET
LOCALLY LOWER. THERE COULD BE ONE TO TWO FEET OF SNOW AT THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS OF THE SAN BERNARDINO AND RIVERSIDE COUNTY MOUNTAINS WITH
ABOUT HALF A FOOT IN THE SAN DIEGO MOUNTAINS AND ON THE PEAKS OF THE
SANTA ANA MOUNTAINS. SNOW...BLOWING SNOW AND DENSE FOG WILL MAKE
TRAVEL HAZARDOUS THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS DURING THIS PERIOD.

PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN WILL INCREASE THE FLASH FLOOD POTENTIAL.
RESIDENTS LIVING IN AND BELOW RECENTLY BURNED AREAS SHOULD BE
PREPARED FOR POSSIBLE FLASH FLOODING AND DEBRIS FLOW. PEOPLE
PLANNING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES SHOULD MONITOR THE LATEST WEATHER
FORECASTS.

I heard it could get down to 2500-2000ft.... and my house is at about 1800ft:D

...Unofficially the local news just said that the mountains should get a foot of snow on monday and up to 2' by thursday...I might just need to see how well my heater is working in the X...

I wonder how bad Johnson Valley will be. Planning on doing some riding, and some testing of the explorer up there this weekend.

I don't think it should be too bad out there...just a bit chilly though.
There's an event going on this weekend at Cougar Buttes, some kind of fun run/save Johnson Valley deal. Thought about cruising out there for the day tomorrow or Sun. and see if I could get in on a run...or I may stay home and fab on the truck.

Forecast for the Lucerne Valley area.

Saturday
Partly cloudy. Areas of blowing sand and blowing dust. Visibility one quarter mile or less at times. Highs 54 to 59. Winds west 30 to 40 mph. Gusts to 65 mph in the afternoon.

Sounds like a good time...

Forecast for the Big Bear area...

Now
Moderate to heavy snow will continue through the morning commute. The snow level will be around 3300 feet and roads will be snow covered and slippery...including Interstate 15 at the top of the Cajon Pass. Visibilities will be less than a quarter mile at times in heavy snow...strong winds and dense fog.

Today
Showers and slight chance of thunderstorms. Areas of fog in the morning. Patchy fog in the afternoon. Visibility one quarter mile or less at times. Snow accumulations of 12 to 18 inches above 5500 feet. Snow accumulations of 4 to 12 inches from 4000 feet to 5500 feet. Snow level rising to around 4500 feet by noon...then falling to 4000 feet in the afternoon. Highs 31 to 41. Winds southwest 30 to 40 mph... becoming 20 to 30 mph in the afternoon. Gusts to 65 mph...mainly near ridgetops and on north and east slopes. Wind chill readings zero to 10 above zero.

They're saying that the temps should be back up in the mid 50's by Saturday. Too bad I have to work. :(

....Your working today???...At least you have the big green truck to drive around in..:D

...It was dark, cold, and windy here saturday...Sunday was sunny almost all day but it did start raining about 1 a.m this morning....It's windy and cold with on and off rain down here with periods of heavy rain...

...This is when I want to be in the mountains the most...:(

Yeah I'm working...We haven't switched to full winter mode yet, so I currently have Tues-Wed off. The snow is sticking all the way down to the desert right now, and we're having near blizzard conditions up here in Big Bear (5 inches on the ground, and no end in sight).

They closed the Cajon down, and have people stuck up there. They said they can't clear the road fast enough. Blizard like conditions. 2 inchs of snow a hour and heavy winds.

If I wasn't working, I'd load the Ex up and try to see if I could help. or least just go play:D

...This is so tempting...Tuesday could be interesting also...

I'd love to go play tomorrow, but I need to fix my truck first...:(

Oh yeah, I re-cracked that stupid t-bar crossmember...
