supercharged 5.0 true fire 98 explorer sport

My 97f350 7.3 has a belt driven vacuum pump and vacuum brake booster

The superdities have the electric pump
Just to run the hubs and the dash
The brakes are hydroboost

You should do hydroboost ;) mustang hydroboost can be adapted quite easily

Your friend is right maybe not enough vacuum for brakes on its own, but it maybe able to supplement the low vacuum your intake makes? With that said
A more powerful pump is probably a better idea

Something like this sure looks easy....It even has a vac switch already on it so it won't run all the time. Easy rarely equates to free though.
Also, I know realestate is pretty limited under your hood Tim.
From my experience with that motor and ****ty brakes, my old explorer was actually kind of dangerous. I agree this needs to be addressed somehow.

Hydroboost is the best route
Info is scarce but if you look in the ranger world you can find others who have done it. The mustang or Astro van hydroboost can be adapted to your Master cyl easily and it Bolts to the firewall
It’s been years since I researched it, I want to use hydroboost in the 331 ttb sport trac I build. Mustang got hydroboost in 96 i believe, no room For Booster under that hood
My old 96 4 door explorer had a e303
Cam and man it did not have good brakes with 33” tires and towing a trailer…

My 04 Mustang has hydroboost also.
I know nothing about it, so its a black box for me. I guess thats why I'm afraid of it.
Thoughts Tim? I know you get the odd mustnag thru there.
I'm sure information on how it works, and what is required to adapt it is out there.

It just gets a hydro high pressure line from the power steering pump and then the high pressur line goes to the rack and pinion… otherwise it bolts in place of the old Vacuum Booster

Delete 4wabs and convert to hydroboost brakes = for the win

i know a small amount about hydro boost systems. for mustangs, i think they only came in the v8 cars for the new edge. i actually found a complete system the first year i went to all ford nationals. i was going to run it on my capri, however i gave it to the guy that bought the motor (was a 429 big block) and havent seen another since. then again, havent really looked either. i am not sure i want to do one. have enough going on under the hood of this thing as it is.
the reason why i want electric is i dont want to add anymore hoses then i have to under the hood. however, i also dont want to spend a ton of money on a pump either. the nice thing is i have all winter to figure out what i am going to do, and to also collect parts. already started because i have a new/used supercharger headed up here. that and the parts i didnt get to over the summer will also go in come spring time. if i had a garage i would be locking myself in it so i can get what ever done over the winter.

did a little digging. this is what i found on a hydroboost system.

just scares me to all the plumbing involved lol. mustang ones might be out just because finding a v8 car with that much still intact would be hard, that is for used stuff.

Hydroboost makes more room
Under hood! Just sayin

There are good vacuum pumps out there for sure! Let us know what you find

You really need a shop! Does your community have those shared garages where everyone pays monthly and you get to share a shop?

looking into things a little more, new edge v6 cars also had hydroboost in them, and they also roll into work from time to time complete even.
i wouldnt mind doing a hydroboost if i find a donor at work so then it would be free lol. i am getting cheep in my old age.
there are only winter storage places around here, however they are that. storage. i dont think they would like it if you came in to work on your stuff. if there were a community garage in my town i would be avoiding it at all costs. there are to many little punks in my town if you know what i mean.

I like the idea of an electric vacuum pump for brake assist, it is clean and simple. I think GM had an electric vacuum pump just for the booster.

its the question of finding what it came from and what years. the only thing i know about gm's are what i see in the rear view mirror.

theres snow here now. not lots, but enough to slide through a intersection into a tree (my neighbour verified that for me).
went for a quick run just inside the us boarder and picked up my new to me m122. the one that on the truck is whipped.
so just that i have a list of things to get done and dont forget it.
get reverse lights working
a/c working *cough 410 need that write up you said you were going to do because im to stupid to figure it out
pull drivers header off and clearance it
battery box relocation
overflow tank for innercooler and replumb
dream up some type of cold air intake
vacuum pump and switch to operate it if needed.

as much as i want to go hydroboost i was talking with a co worker who is also a hotroder and he made a real good point. he brought up in the past some of my road trips that i have done. then gave a example of what would i do if i was miles and miles away from home and something broke. you would be screwed. if i went to a vacuum pump, i could walk into a parts store, buy one slap it on and be on my way vs trying to cobble something together (and i have enough one off's on evil as it is).
he had a good point.
i have also found a bunch of dodges around the 2014 ish years that have a pump solely for a brake booster, and thats what i will keep a eye out for.

What am I looking at?
He's posted the length of his snout and shaft here instead of his only fans page
