Pugly

Well, good thing Brad will be there to help you. Here's to a smooth swap. I'll be watching from here. I'd get over there to help if I could.

I may show up, where you going to be, the shop where the flatbed is at and the :troops: shall arrive dude.

Forgot to update this thread as I really do not have much (if any) free time these days.

Pugly is parked until winter waiting for an engine swap. The 1st try at the swap didn't happen as the engine I looked at was sketchy, and I didn't want to mess with it.

The rear main seal was bad, so a new one was installed to get by for a couple weeks.

The lifters were diagnosed as completely shot on one bank, and sound like a diesel under a load. So instead of driving it into the ground, it got parked so it can still move under it's own power until the swap happens.

Poor Pugly. What's the mileage of that engine?

Well... that doesn't bode well for the Beasts 299k...

But if I'm out that way this winter, I'd be glad to lend a hand with the swap.

I miss updates to this thread.....

Late update...

After a discussion with the brilliant Moderator Turdle, the problem with the stock engine was diagnosed correctly.

Turns out the engine noise was just a ping caused by being starved for fuel under load. After giving it a look thru real close, I found the fuel pump relay to be burned up. I replaced it with a used one I had, and the issue vanished.

So a tune up of new plugs n wires, oil change, and cleaning of some sensors, and it was purring away again. :D

Now a couple thousand mile later, and the used relay decided to burn up. Something is making it hot, but not sure what it is. I sprayed some contact cleaner in the connection ports, but that is all I can think of to do with it. :dunno:

A new lifetime relay was installed, so if it happens again, at least I know I can get another free.

Oh....and Pugly got a new set of winter wipers today too. :)

Yay mate :D

Would excess resistance from pseudo clogged fuel injectors cause a increase in draw, and thus, heat?

It runs fine, so I don't think the injectors are clogged up. (I also did the seafoam treatment when it got tuned up).

I think it is more a ground issue of some kind. This rig has had many ground issues in the past, so it makes me lean to that as a possible cause.

I have heard that the power dist box can develop issues with age, so who knows. :dunno:

Pugly is having speedo issue.

Needle likes to read fast because I haven't changed the VSS gear since it is back on the 31's.

But every now & then, the needle wants to jump up about 10mph more for a few seconds, before it returns back to it's normal.

I know the 94 is a cable fed VSS (unlike the newer gens), so I was wondering if it is just the VSS going bad, or is the actual cable about to break?

I'm almost 100% positive that the speed is actually cable driven. There is a VSS on the cable but thats not used for the speedo.

With that said, I'd be looking at a bad cable or speedo head since it jumps which is what happens when the cable winds up and then frees up. I've also seen weirdness with a worn drive gear in the xfer case which would chew up the driven gear on the end of the cable.
