I plan on playing more with the seats just ran out of time for now. i wanted to get the middle cleared out so I can start working on my doubler and as time premits a hand operated ebrake. I need work to quite getting in the way of working on the truck.

Also I dont think Tracy would go for the girls on the mud flaps. I thought about Yosemite Sam but ended up just going with black ones. They hang about 3" out past the edge of the body to line up with the tires. Considering my rear axle is about 4.5" wider then a stock ranger axle I think that might be why I got the mudflap ticket.

jefe where do you think I got the idea of the brackets for the mud flaps. :D We will see how the bolt works out I might end up tossing a few welds on as well if they move around to much. I just used a hole in the frame to bolt to and then cranked them down nice and tight with the impact. Hopefully they will stay in place :D

Those mudflaps you rigged up look pretty good Matt  I need to do something like that before I get another ticket...again

I don't get it  Why are you guys getting tickets? Because the tires stick out from the fender? Or do Brian's buddys just have nothing else to do :p

RockRanger, looks awesome, great job. Are you still running the stock gas tank or the BII tank that you fabbed up earlier on in the project? I can't see the BII tank in the recent pics.

Just for that, I think I will be bringing my pinch (ticket) book out to Truckhaven next month. ;) :p
Really, some officers just want people to follow all the rules.

I cant believe whats considered street legal here in CO.
Full on rock rigs with basically no tire coverage = legal :)

Right now I am running the stock gas tank. I ran out of time to get it swap in before this run. Plus i have to smog my truck in the next two weeks so after I smog it then the BII tank will be going in. I plan on trying to get all the emisions stuff that is neccesary working on the truck but after this smog no more smogs for me :bounce: :bounce: .

I only got 3 mudflap fix it tickets in my old ranger (2 of them were within a week of each other) and the tires on that sat completly under the fender well. It was also before I cut the bottom 6" off the bed and bobbed it.

As far as mud flap violations I knew I was pushing beyond the limits of what was legal coverage anyway. I was planning on adding the flaps anyway except the ticket just moved it up on the list. My rear axle is 4.5" wider then a stock ranger (explorer axle plus 1.5" spacers on each side) So my rear tires do stick a few inches out past the fenders. The majority of that is just sidewall but the rules are the rules. The front axle is probably about 4" wider then stock, then toss 3" more with wheelspacers I plan on adding and I will be sticking out even farther in the front. I am planning on adding front flaps at the same time I add the spacers. I do think that flaps look ugly on a truck but If I want to drive it on the street then I have to follow the rules.

I am still debating on making some sort of removeable fender flares as well to keep the tires covered more but havent figured out a good way to do that yet. Once I pull the bed off and tube it out then I will really need to figure out a good tire coverage way.

That sucks man! Move out of Cali and you won't have to worry about it! My MTRs stick out a good 6" per side and no cop has ever even mentioned it when I got pulled over! The truck looks great!

Well, okay he needs mud flaps in California, but today was over 75 degrees and clear skies. What was the temp in Colorado??

About 65 I think. Didn't mean to insult your great state of California there officer. Good thing I am out of your juristiction :p

I didn't mean to encourage anymore californians to move to our state either- I should learn to control my mouth. Actually, cops are as arrogant here as they are everywhere- no matter the weather.

Sorry about that brief Hijack Matt. Back to your truck. Looks Good! Hows the doubler comming along?

I'll behave now too... :D

As much as things suck in Cali one thing you can beat is the weather. California would be great if half the people here left and quit making it so crowded. Hoping to get the truck ready for emission testing this weekend and do a few other things on the truck as time allows.

Half, only half.......????? I vote for 75% and we get to pick who leaves.

Matt,

I saw where you had spindle/caliper fitment issue around page 5 but couldn't find your solution anywhere in the thread. Please shed some light. Are you using the f-150 calipers and spindles, just different spindles, I'm looking at doing a very similar swap with a LP 44 to keep lift height to 4" and also avoiding narrowing at the same time. Brakes seem to be the only issue.

I am using the 6 bolt Gm/jeep knuckles. Mine happened to come off of an early 70s chevy so I could drill them for histeer. The ford knuckles and spindles use a 5 bolt pattern instead.

As far as my front end here is what I am using:

1970's chevy dana 44 knuckles. The passanger side one has been drilled and tapped for histeer. Otherwise they are just standard knuckles.

For balljoints I went into Napa and asked for upper and lowers for an 1982 jeep waggonner. They fit the chevy knuckle and the Cs on my waggoneer axle.

My spindles were available on early 70's waggonners and some chevys but I got them new. Part Number is 706528x

My brake caliper is a rebuilt one from napa for an 1982 jeep waggoneer.

My brake caliper bracket is off an 82 jeep wagoneer.

My brake roter is from a 1989 4x4 f150

My wheelbearings are from a 1989 4x4 f150

My locking hubs of from a 1989 4x4 f150 (though any dana 44 locking hub should work)

My inner and outer axleshafts are from an 1982 jeep waggonner

It all fits together perfect and works great. The above info is what you need to run 6 bolt knuckles and beable to run a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. If you want to go 6 on 6.5 just get the stuff off a chevy or jeep and your done.

The caliper clearance issues I was having earlier in the thread was because I had the wrong spindles. The 1982 wagonneer spindle wont let an f150 inner bearing onto the spindle because the bearing is to small. I then tried a 1989 f150 spindle. While it let the bearings on the spacings were incorrect and wouldn't let caliper fit onto the bracket. I could have probably cut up the bracket and made it work but brakes and steering are two places you dont half ass how you do stuff. By getting the spindle listed above it allowed everything to line up and fit perfect.

Here is a good site that I got alot of my infor from when trying to piece my system together. http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/flatop_knucles.html

Hope that answers your questions.

the 44 im building is using the exact same setup.

So after a few days of wheeling I have found a few things that need to be changed/ addressed

6. I need more weight in the bed. The 75 degree down hills were a little interesting with no weight in the back. A spare tire tool box and moving the gas tank will help alot.

Matt I got a Delta dimand plate tool box that goes across the bed I'll give you for one of these :D
