At the hospital now. Surgery went well doctor said.

This trip looks great. I really hope we have the opportunity to get out here in the future.

For the wheeling starved guy...more pictures please! :)

Once upon a time, these photo threads would actually spawn discussion from people from all over the country/world:dunno:

Great pics and videos. Gotta get there, at least once, and soon. . . Maybe the MLK Weekend Run, maybe.

_____________________________________________________________

..For those keeping score at home, I'm going to try and recap who all was out there on this trip..

Rick - with Char
Char - with the wonder dog Clyde
Tom - Really humongous Camper and Bella (Arkansas pig dog/pup)
Maniak - looking to see who keeps pulling up behind him on the night runs
DAExplorer - Birthday Boy
CJExplorer - with friend who had ginormous chair = chair envy
Dave Alfaro - with land yacht and family - First TH trip for the Wife :biggthump
Stic-o - and family with glow sticks and Chicago style sliders
DB_1 - in the Rock Crawlin Ranger stayed in tent
Elgatoprerunner - modified, Half an Explorer
Tbars4 - trying out new camping gear
sirhk100- with the hump dog and friends with their rigs - tenting also

..If I missed anyone please, post up..

..With all the camera's that were taking pictures around camp, I'm surprised no picture have been posted of the potluck, the 3 foxes who kept raiding camp from all sides, the real fire, or even the big chair..

..Anyone have a carnage report to share on all of the vehicles?

I still need to go through the videos to make sure I got them all up but...

Here is Stic-o doing a last minute repair before hitting the trail. A couple batteries and Rick's Ready welder and viola.. cracked shock mount is in 1 piece again.

I swapped out a front axle (thanks sirhk100 for the help) on the front. I had a really annoying squeak that just about everyone at Truckhaven could probably hear. Turns out the end of the outter shaft was rubbing on the back side of the spindle. The rubber seal is missing/folded back... My spare axle has a good seal and once I changed it the noise was gone...

I did get a couple owies though...

I caught the front left corner (just scratches) in one of the twisty sections..

I had to pivot around a rock by the waterfall.. I don't have sliders, so I pivoted on the Rocker panel.. I need to remedy that.

My passenger side rear corner got a little gouged/dented when trying to follow DB1 on the night run. The tire went up, the truck slid right and then my only option was strap or go backwards.. I went backwards BUT I couldn't get a good line to get out, so out came the strap and up I went.. However, by then, the body damage was done..

The Van had more fuel issues on the way home. The Fuel pump was over heating so I had to pull over and squirt cold water onto it to cool it off. I had to do that 3 times on the trip home.. I'll look into that more (I have another fuel pump) next week.

All in all, the X did very well.. The SOA made it so where I had issues before were walks in the park.. It's nice not catching the spring plates or springs themselves when wheeling.

My only real report is that the new traction bar worked extremely well. I didn't think I was going to be able to follow Dave up the waterfall, but it did it with no problem. Surprised the heck out of me not having any wheel hop to deal with.

Love the beauty marks Maniak, just clearcoat over them and leave it as is. Gouges, scratches and dents on a trail rig are like stretch marks on a mother (They're a badge of honor, it hurt like hell getting them but well worth the journey of earning them) "Quoted from my wife".

Maniak - looking to see who keeps pulling up behind him on the night runs

I just now got this.. :) I'm a little slow today..

For others.. it's in reference to me getting confused when I hit the brakes on the night run after taking out the tail light. I kept thinking there was someone to my right thanks to the white light coming off the broken tail light. It's even worse when your in the ditches and it reflect off the wall to your right.

Sounds like I missed a good trip.
Glad to hear everyone made it home in, more or less, one piece.
Glad to hear about Mrs. Zukman doing well.
Keep the pics coming!
SAS still in progress.....

This was the last step to freeing the toppled Toyota.

Well, got home Sunday, Monday on my lunch break, had a front wheel bearing let loose! Pulled it apart monday night and the rollers just fell out. Good timing on that one! Got it back together last night. Had to hit the junkyard for more of those splined washers, the splines were literally torn out of the washer on mine. Guess that front axle doesn't want to stay in the spindle that well. LOL

Also have some serious clunking coming from the rear now. I've had it all along but it got much worse from this trip. I "think" it's the shackle hanger bushings thru the frame. I'm going to order a pair today after work and just replace them anyways for piece of mind. If that doesn't fix the clunk I'll look into it more afterwards. I'm assuming the sleeve inside those bushings should be captured to the rubber and mine isn't on the pass side at least. I can shift my shackle left and right thru the bushing.

I think I'm going to pickup a spare set of wheel bearings tonight also. They're cheap and small enough to easily carry as spares! Can't hurt!!! Even if I didn't have a punch and hammer to change out the races, at least I could pop new bearings in on the old races in a pinch and keep going fairly easy!

Pre sunrise breakfast somewhere west of parker on my way out friday morning while letting the dog run around for a bit.

Great pics guys. It brings back memories.

Big tires on Dana 35 gets you approximately 400-500 miles prior to needing to tighten up the double nut thingy.

I have a ton of those splined washers and locking nuts. I will see if I have them in my field cases in my garage or if they are in my Explorer 2,000 miles away. Still working on transporting it out West.

Did Stage 8 ever produce the locking nut for the 35 spindle? Isn't the 44 the same thread pattern for the nut?
