BMXking's Axle Swap 1st gen. Coils/Radius Arms!!!

Well, I finally decided to start a thread on it. For those of you who don't know, I will be doing a full-width swap. High-Pinion Dana 44 front and Ford 9" rear. I am still looking for the HP D44, but I picked up the 9" Monday. I have never really done a lot of work on axles, so this will definitely be a long process, but I have already done a lot of research about this(and am still learning a TON). hey 034x4, all the other redneck ways were listed so I added that part in, having the studs pressed in at a brake shop and paying the guy to do it is usually cheaper and faster

bryan...ya know supercross is this saturday...are ya gonna have it done ???

how was supercross bryan ? i was gonna go but i sold my tickets

Awesome! Great tickets and definitely one of the best Supercross races I've ever been to.

I'm heading down to Griffin tomorrow, I'll check up on those parts, I'll leave a voicmail if he has what you need.

bryan...when they had the red flag in the race what happened cause i was sitting on the whole other side of the dome ? this year really was better than any other when ive went..

A guy wrecked on the second double of the seconds straight (right after holeshot) and they were concerned with his well-being and he had to be stretchered off the course.

There were 2-3 times that people had to be taken off the track on a stretcher. Where were you sitting James? I was in section 140, row 24, so I couldn't see that wreck too well either.

I've been working on it as usual, after work. I got a couple of pieces of steel from work today. 1/4" wall, 2.5" wide box steel. I'll be using this to push out the coil buckets. A couple of weeks ago, I realized I'd need to do this because after I got it all setup, I realized that if I moved in the C-wedges, the radius arms would end up being ~2" inside the frame wells, and they're right under them right now. I'm finishing up the rebuild/assembly of the front axle so that I can bolt up the 37s and make sure I've got the axle where it needs to be to sit level before it's all welded up. Really close to being able to take the jackstands out from under it (hopefully this weekend)!!!

I pulled off the grille, lights, etc and cleaned the front end and motor tonight when I didn't have anything to do (Advance Auto was already closed so I couldn't get the part I needed to finish the rebuild). I'm gonna be putting in the new diamond headlights, corners, and markers tomorrow after school. Might be ordering a black billet grille from work too.

lookin good bmxking!! Can't wait to see it all done!

I was wondering...what did you do to your rear shock mounts on the axle? Where did you get those coil spring retainer cups? Did you have to rotate the retainers in? And if so were there any problems with the coils being in the wrong position?

Thanks!

I got them from Bill Myers on RRORC. Last set he made. I did not rotate the spring retainer in. It'll be set up with the 2.5" box steel to space it out. I'll need to pull the front end in a couple of months for the regear/ARB/Warn chromos, so if the springs are a bit "bowed" in, I'll drill another hole to turn them in the needed amount.

Thanks guys. :) I HAD to do the headlights. I had a blown out silverstar bulb from the previous wheeling trip (dipped the front end in a creek at night) and since the store was closed, I decided to start it all last night. (After all, with my truck being absent from school for this long, it better come back with a bunch of $h*t done to it. :D) I got them installed after work today and they look a million times better. Should have a lot more light output too.

The front end is not regeared. The rear is locked and geared already. I don't enough extra money for the truck to do what I really wanted. When it gets regeared, I want a full ARB up front. I only want it done once. So I'm gonna be getting the front regeared a month or so after the swap. Warn chromos after that.

where do your radius arms connect to the frame at? i want to see if the ones i am getting r not gonna be too long
