Yep- it was "only a couple of miles to where it was going to be stored" but the boat happened to be about 10,500 lbs. :O

Oh yeah- he pulled out and floored it, too... 160HP OHV + 10,500 lbs. boat + pedal to the metal = OOPS!

That's not an oops, that's not even stupid. That is insane!! Geez, people who think that because they have V8 they can tow their freakin' house with it!

...I know mine can, but hey...we ain't talkin' about me here.

Yeah, someone might be able to tow a 10,500 lbs. boat with an OHV when Explorers fly...

Wait... Dan? :D

The funny thing is, I think I could have got the old truck to pull it and live... :shifty_ey

I was actually referring to my Ram. :p:

If I towed that much with my 1st gen, I would turn that poor A4LD into pretzel.

I was actually referring to my Ram. :p:

And I was actually referring to your flying Explorer... :D

...in other news...

Rear seats and console shell installed, on Simple Green refill break...

Ok, so today's progression was a big one.

Carpet now dry and re-installed:

I figured what the heck- I'll install my new sway bar body mount bushings. WTF- The inboard bolts would NOT come out past 1/2-3/4 way. I was reefing on them with a breaker bar, my impact, everything- would NOT budge past that point. I hope I'm not missing something in there. So, I re-tightened them, and I'm going to run it back out to a buddy's shop to have him put it on the lift and see what's up in there, as well as have some spare bolts in the car in case the others break. I didn't want to strand the truck. So that ate up about an hour for a 10 minute job. Oh well- another day.

So I moved back on to the interior.

Rear seats dropped in (see how much time I wasted on the bushings!!):

Mmmmm... Clean!

Time to work on the console. Anyone have a shaver? WTF?!?!

Console detailed: :D

Console installed (by the way- if you have a creaky moving console, check those black bolts on the side- these were both loose, and the console was creaking- now after tightening them, no noise at all):

After that, I was spotted-

Yes, that's the BOTTOM of my passenger seat, and yes, those ARE Q-Tips. Don't judge me, I know I have issues... :p:

Seat installed:

Driver's side dropped in...

I think it came out good for now- I still have to detail the seats, the door panels, recover the console armrest, paint the rear seat nuts and get some '95-'97 rubber caps for them, clean and re-install the back panel of the console, clean the console cupholders and trays, and clean the sill trim, detail the door jambs, etc., etc., etc., etc... (etc.)

But for now, I'm ok to be seen in it. :)

Nice and clean. Looks good. Not judging you at all joe. Giving all of us inspiration, I just need the time to clean my X like you clean yours.

on the other hand:

Poor snowball.........................snowball was a OHV V6? I must have forgotten. A 10,500 lbs boat behind an explorer

Mmmhhmm, a clean Explorer. Never seen one before. :p:

Good job, man.

Interesting though- I have yet to take any of my Ex's to a car show... :p:

Ha ha! I am a sick mind, that's for sure! :)

your only sick if you drive 26 hours threw 2 countries and 7 states to go to a car show.......um wait........
seriously joe, i really don't know how you do it. excellent as always. did you used to do this for a living at one time or something?

No, I've done detailing on the side, but not rip-outs like this. Once I sold my extractor and stuff, I stopped doing side work for detailing. It's hard to explain to customers why you charge $100+ for a good detail including paint correction, because the local car wash says they'll hand wax for $20. It wasn't worth doing 8-10 hours of work using $20 worth of product for $50, no matter how much you enjoyed doing it.

I guess at this point, it's pride in my ride... But once I'm done with a major undertaking like when I first get a new vehicle, my upkeep seriously downgrades since there is a 6 year old riding in the back seat. Maybe windows once a week, vac once every 2 weeks... For those with kids that age, you know that you could drive yourself crazy keeping a car detailed out, and I'd rather spend time hanging out with him then vacuuming after him. :)

Dirty secret? I've actually never waxed Shamrock as a whole since I've had 'er. I really don't know why. The only panels that have been touched are the rear 1/4's after I did the POR-15 touchup and they had to be buffed out.

But, my cars have always been clean, I really don't know why- I guess I just appreciated having them. Not that you can't appreciate your car and not keep it spotless, it's just my thing I guess.

It started heavy with my '86 Thunderbird...

Hey Joe, I still need help with mine before it gets too cold. I got a clay kit from Meg's and some nice soft micro-fiber towels. I just don't wanna detail my truck on our street!! A lot of crazy drivers. Our hose does not reach the back!

Get a couple more hoses and connect them together!

Reminds me of my '86 Turbo Coupe. That's me on the left, a lot younger, and a lot thinner..............

LOl, Joe's in deep now,

You should call it "deep wedgie"

:D

On a side note, one country road cruise in Kansas is all it would take to undo all the q-tip time. That dust gets everywhere fast.

Word. I bought my '97 Cougar from someone in Paola 2 years ago and I have yet to get rid of all the gravel dust.

I have 3 already! We only have one outside spigot in front of the house. We have a long yard. I have 3 50' hoses and still no good.
