... probably after my next big paycheck comes in I can start on that. :(

Paycheck, what's that? I don't ever see mine on pay day, everyone else gets it!

well i skipped over the first 20 or so pages just looking at the pictures, but i read from about 21 to the end. as long as you are done before next spring(which it looks like you'll be done by end of this month/early september) i'm happy. i plan to use yours and 034x4's build threads to plan out my little project that i can hopefully start this spring... hopefully (if i can get another job and my tranny doesnt go out on me.)

the only things i still need to consider is if i want the shackle in the front or the rear, there are good reasons for both. and steering setup has me concerned. it seems to be what holds everyone up for a little while(with all the adapters and such) and plus with ifs not even having a box to begin with and blah blah blah....

basically what i'm trying to say is.... good job, i'm going to steal all of your work probably.

Steering should be easy for you. Just throw in a 91-94 steering box like Jefe/Stic-o. Unless you're going to run hydro-assist.

My steering setup is basically set in stone. All I am going to change will be getting high-angle ujoints for the steering shafts. It's actually steering a lot better now since it's self-cleared for the last 80 miles. :D

is your v8 and headers the reason that you didn't run a 91-94 box? and 034x4 didn't run one either.

or is it the hydro assist? and why will the 91-94 box not work with hydro. not that i see hydro as something in the near future (hell, the sas isnt really even in the near future), but i suppose down the road i might want it, and if thats the case and i need a box anyway, i may as well get the right box the first time.

The V8 is the problem. There is just no room for an inside-the-frame box as the oil filter sits right there.

I'm pretty sure Jey used the Toyota IFS box because he was going hydro. These Toyota boxes are simple to tap for the additional lines. I'm not even sure if people are running hydro steering off the 91-94 boxes. I imagine you can because I think that box was used on all 89-96 (something crazy like that) BII, Rangers, Explorers, F150s, etc. Maybe something to search PBB about.

You can alwyas relocate the oil filter and remove the lower radiator hose oil cooler thingy Ford put on the 5.0L V8 in our trucks.....

Well that is the most obvious obstruction. I'll get a pic. I never had a Gen 1 box either.. so I don't know how big/small they are compared to the Toy boxes I have.

Okay.. I take that back. There would be a lot of room if you relocate the filter. I don't know how straight of a shot it would be up to the steering wheel for the shaft though. What do you think Jamie?

i love this forum. i appreciate the info. seeing as i only have a 4.0, and i dont plan on running gigantic tires (35-37's) it looks like the 91-94 box is the way to go for me, but i'm going to look into the yota box because i have plenty of time to weigh my options. but i want to try and get everything ready to go pretty much so i can finish the swap asap once i start. i cant really afford another vehicle currently and i dont want to bum a ride off mommy and daddy for a month.

I think I have seen a couple of Gen II's woth the frame plated and a gen I style, Yota, Nissan, Ford whatever pitman arm style box mounted on the inside of the frame rail.

I think the V8 headers and the oil filter do kinda encroach on the steering shaft space in the Gen II but I also see ways around that. Bottom line is a SAS requires fabrication on a IFS truck, this should just be considered part of the conversion.

You can plan all you want, have all the parts ready to go etc but you WILL still run into something.
So plan twice as long and double your budget, then you will be good to go...

budget... lol.... yeah... that thing is at $0 right now. i've been sending in applications, so hopefully i'll be working full time soon...

anyway, my thread hi-jack is over. good luck with your truck.

Amen brother! ;)

Go with a first gen box. We pulled one from a 96 Crew Cab Dulley F-350. Same box as the First gen Ex one I pulled. The great thing about using this box is you can just order first gen steering lines and they bolt right up. I also used the first gen steering shaft, just had to space it with a few washers on the top. Works perfect though, and cheap and easy to find at the junk yard.

My stock lines threaded right into my FJ60 box. Dead Link Removed :o

I plan on starting my "SAS Registry Thread" soon where I'll have all the cool stuff I learned in one easy to read post.

Not saying you shouldn't go with the gen 1 box though. Now I have Toyota parts on mine. :(
