Well we decided to go ahead and learn to install gears tonight. :p:

Took us a while, but we went slow and took our time. The front will probably be a little faster. Anyway, so the 4.88s and LS are in and on the road. Everything is so far so good.

I ordered a spring kit for the front Detroit (which came today, thank you FROADER), so it looks like we'll be installing that this weekend. I'll be in the hills by Sunday. :D

On to the pics!

It'll never work. You should just pay someone to do your gears for you, do you really wanna risk it?

LOLz

P.s. i think the gear marking compound stuff is a good color for me :)

nice football shaped pattern?

Its not that tricky afterall is it? :)

What gears did you have before in that pig?

No locker? only L/S :thumbdwn: Get your self a locker there buddy.

I will, Chief! :p: Soon enough.

Jamie.. it had 3.73s. Now I have to find the correct gear for the speedo - meter.

I have 35s. :D

I threw the stock gear back in there because it would have been closer than the one I used for 32/33s. But it's still pretty far off.

Here's my calculations:

Speedometer Gear Teeth = (Drive Teeth * Rear End Ratio * Tire Revolutions per Mile) / 1,000

(7)(4.88)(576.52)
------------------
1000

19693.92
---------
1000

19.69 Tooth Gear = Pink

Good?

20 tooth it is! You dont have one?
I have a collection.....Autozone sells them these days I think so does ford.
Are you sure your drive gear has 7 teeth? hehehehe mine has 8 doesnt that just suck!!
My 4406 drive gear is 8 tooth
not sure what the 1354 uses

Oh ****. I might have messed that up. I was going off what a 4r70w has. Forgot I'm not 2wd!

Try #2

looks good to me!

here is mine (blah 3.73 gears for now):

33" tire = 33" x 3.14 for circumference = 103.62"
5280 feet in a mile = 63,360"

103.62 / 63,360 = 611.5 revs per mile so:

8*3.73*611.5 = 18,247.

18 tooth, GPS will tell the truth!

Looks like 4405 uses a 7T.

where are you finding this stuff?
Sorry I keep thinking you have the 1354?
WTF?

sorry if I am confused but you should be used to it by now....I learn by asking and then questioning my asking and then asking again

I do have a 1354. But what I was meaning was I found that 4405s have a 7T. So I'd imagine a 1354 does too since they're interchangable. :D

I'm going to go run my GPS and get an indicated speed VS actual speed.

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158739

We'll see what that gets me....

what color is the drive gear in your 1354? easy way to tell

(gets out 10mm wrench, mirror and flashlight)

New Teeth = (Current Teeth x Speedo Reading)/Actual Speed

T = 17x60
------
55

T = 18.5

19 tooth dammit they need to make 1/2 tooths

I'll pick up the pink gear when I go get the Mountaineer from the dealership. It's there for the CC recall. It actually caught on fire and melted the fluid resivour a little causing it to leak. Sick, huh?
