Dave one of these days I will call the place I got my draglink material from and see what they say the cost is for 1.5 and 1.75 I am thinking of going with 1.5 so that it takes up less space in an already tight ranger cab.

So I got a chance to work on the truck today. The reamer for the pitman arm didnt show up friday like they said it would :fire: so I didnt get to finish the steering. I got a chance to work on the broncoII tank I cut the exhaust off by the axle so I will have to reroute it around teh gas tank. I put a cross member in up front for it to bolt to. it is a piece of 3x3 3/16 angle (thanks rangerX) that I welded caps on the end of then drilled a hole in each end to bolt to the frame in a hole already in the frame. I also had to clearance a small section of it so the shock wouldn't make contact with it. I need to pick up some 1.25" square tubing to use as a spacer and finish drilling the rest of the holes to mount the tank to the cross member.

For the back mount I ran a piece of angle iron all the way across to each frame rail and used a bolt hole that held the stock rear bumper on. Then the angle iron was welded to the skid plate.

here are a few farther out pictures to get an idea of how it will sit. It will sit lower and farther back then I would like but it is the only way it will fit with a short bed. Also there is about 3.25" between the shackle and the skid plate that I will be able to run the exhaust past. I might have to add eather a heat shield or wrap the ehaxust to keep from getting the gas tank and spring busing to hot.

Actually cause I just dont like the idea of having it dump out under the truck. I am and concerned with it blowing up alot of dust and the all the fumes being so close to the drivers compartment. Just seams like a hack way of doing it.

No no, I mean out the side in front of the tire. I'm sure you can find some room around the sliders.

It does sound really good though when it dumps out under the truck though.

With a short bed standard cab truck after two cats then a muffler it would be hard to put a 90 on it and get it out infront of thetire. Plus there isnt a very good place to stick it out. Who ever installed the exhaust that is on the truck left the muffler hanging pretty low so I plan on redoing the exhaust from the cat back anyway. I am pretty sure it will fit. Ill just have to put a little OCC magic into my trick exhaust as well I really like how RangerX has his done. I am going to kind of copy how his is done.

I would just dump the exhaust under the truck. That's how mine is and it doesn't kick up any dust. Can't smell it in the cab or anything. It exits a good 2 feet behind the cab.

Dont know. I typed fart tip into google and that was onr of the pics I found. I couldnt find a good picrure of the tips with lights in it so I had to settle for those. There wont be any exhaust tip on the truck. Anyone have a specific muffler they like on the 4.0? Dont want anything loud thuugh.

I really like the glasspacks. I feel like a fat old biker saying that (not that there is anything wrong with that) but we have been using them a ton recently. My Exploder has a 36" long one on it and it is as quiet as ever.

A few things I like about glasspacks:
1. They are dirt cheap. Vato Zone has a rack of all assorted ones for around $20
2. They are tough. They are made of thick enough metal that they don't rust out easily and the can handle a smash or two on rocks. Also, the beefier metal lends itself to fabbing b/c it is easier to work with and weld (I used a little cheap flux core wire feed arc welder on them).
3. They are small enough to work in small places. They are easy to tuck up out of harms way and keep them away from the rocks.
4. I think there is a little performance benefit due to the fact that they are higher flowing mufflers. Honestly I couldn't tell a difference. I had a borla that boasted performace increase too, and I couldn't tell a difference.

I have put one on my ranger also. It was like 12" and made it loud. Then I added one to my explorer that was 36" and it is like stock noise level. We put one in my brothers 96 cherokee recently that was 24 or something and it was a nice balance between the two- added a little noise to it, but not annoying like my ranger. I am just waiting for my wifes Tj and my families car's stock mufflers to rust out and I will replace them with Glasspacks.

I dig your gas tank and skid. Looks like a TJ or an XJ from the back almost! I might have to do that to add some weight back there. Maybe an auxillary or something.

Oh, and I would bring the exhaust right between the gas tank and the shacklesand terminate it just at the end there. XJs are like that and it is really very protected. XJs have a bend on the end that is cut off right after the bend so it just turns it down a little. They go with in inches of the plastic gas tank (some don't even have metal skids) and it is fine. If I were you I would just make sure the skid comes all the way between the exhaust and the tank.

I would put a Fart tip on it for sure so you can leave it out on the trail when you rip it off on a rock

Kirby that is pretty much exactly how I was planning on running the exhaust. I pushed the tank over as far to the driverside as I could so that I could have more room for the exhaust. The skid plate probably weighs 45-50lbs so it will add plenty of weight to the back of the truck when filled with 23 gallons of gas. I am pretty sure i am going to need to add an add-a-leaf to the rear springs so that I can make it sit level. Hopefully this coming weekend I will have more time to work on it.

run the exhaust out of the rear quarter panel, still behind the tire but you dont have to make the big U shaped bend to get over and back under the rear axle.
I have a 3" pipe between my leafs and gas tank/skid plate, there is room, butr someday I want to take the exhaust and exit through the sheetmetal.

It melts the paint on my rear bumper because I have it cut and tucked up for departure angle hahaha


88 BII 5" of rear lift, 8.8 SOA, 4" leafs (sagged) 2" block, stock chackles.
3" exhaust.

Looks great Matt! Make sure you leave room for the pump and connections up there!
