We could do a pre-run this weekend! :D I need to chage oil and do some other stuff one but the other I'm open! :p

If you don't turn into the trail and camp where we did last time, you go up the grade and there are lots of places to camp at the top of the hill. If everyone wants to camp in the campground, I could go for that too.

Just an F.Y.I. - Dishpan Springs is currently closed. There are signs posted near Deep Creek, not Crab Flats. John Bull has plenty of water all around the trail from melting snow. It is supposedly more challenging than it has been in years. Holcomb Creek is also in great shape. This is the word as of last weekend when a buddy in the Heep Club I am in ran a pre-run. We're going on Sunday to do an additional pre-run since our club is doing a 2 day event there in the middle of the month. If anyone wants to join us for a pre-run, just email me @ kencooke@pe.net, 'cause I'll be out there all day on Sunday.

Well I don't know if any one heard but it was snowing again last night up in BB. Not sure how much, but I heard anywhere from 4"-7". This should make it interesting

I can't even wait to see how the TrXus MT's do in the slick stuff!

Just a thought;

Its going to be colder by the lake than anywhere else on the mountain. I have been up there in winter and near the lake the wind blows off the water and brrrrrrrrrrrrr. Serrano campground is right by the lake.

Does anyone know if we can have campfires??

Brian,

You probably need to obtain a campfire permit while camping at Serrano. Check with the SBNF Rangers on that...

Lump me in the wuss category with stic-o, but if we can't have a fire, I am NOT spending the night! :mattmoon:

It's ok Bill worst case sanario I got a propane heater I can borrow! ;) I slept in the truck first night of T-haven, a tent was probbaly colder.

Ok, I'm officially in for Saturday...wasn't sure if i'd have my truck back together and functional but its ready to go :burnout:

ok what day/s for sure are we talking here? and where and when is the meet and greet?

Stic-o, its actually colder in a vehicle than in a tent cause your are encased in metal which is a great temp conductor, and off the ground which means you are getting the cold on four sides instead of three. I have camped in the snow with a tent and in a vehicle and its colder in the vehicle. The snow is a great insulator.

I don't care where we camp, I just want to wheel! If it gets too cold at night to sit around outside we can all pile into my trailer, I'll crank up the heater and we can watch a movie on the DVD player. If you bring your sleeping bags inside and heat them up, they stay warm a long time.

If my family doesn't come I will be up there Friday mid-morning and come home Monday or Tuesday cause I got some time off work. I have a few minor things to do prior to my Explorer prior to coming out (got an idea from "Brother of Jefe" to better secure my tire and gas can racks on the rear bumper), but nothing big this time. New front bumper is still in the works so it won't be ready for this trip.

That's funny! Notice him diging a trench with the rear shakle! :D

Brian~ Just pic a place, We'll figure out how to keep warm later. Bill's tough he'll survive the night :p .....I'm NOT cuddling with him to keep him warm! :nono:

Okay, here we go!

Spots that should work for us and be comfy.

1) Go to Fawnskin. Take trail 3N14 past Holcomb Creek. Go up grade and whoever gets there first can find a spot near the top of the grade, before Big Pine Flat. Only downside is there is a lot of traffic on this road. (15 minutes from Fawnskin)

2) Take 3N14 past the grade and make a left (westerly) onto 3N16. Drive for awhile (few miles) then left onto 3N97. Find a spot before Ironwood Group camp (there are a few areas in here). (20-25 minutes from Fawnskin)

3) 3N14 to 3N16 (left or westerly) to 3N06X (few more miles past 3N97). Turn left or southerly. At the Y in the trail (not marked) turn right. Go down trail next to a very pretty meadow for about 100 yards to the pines in the end of the meadow. Camp. You can also get here by going down 3N97 past Ironwood Group Camp to where trail "Y"'s and turn left.

Or since most of us take the 330 to the 18 to come up the mountain from Bernardino; Just east of Arrowbear on Hwy 18 take a left (northerly) onto Green Valley Lake Road. Its clearly marked, paved, and one of the few turnoffs. Go up hill to 3N16 and turn left (north) dirt. Follow that all the way (several miles) to 3N06X, turn right.

Choice #3 is my favorite spot up there (secluded, no traffic, lots of spots to camp, scenic), but its hard to find at night. I guess it all depends on if my family is going. If they are not, I can mark the turnoffs for us cause I will be there in the morning on Friday. I should know in a few days.
