cage building party

exo cages are over rated, they take more steel and are not nearly as strong as an internal cage without adding all kinds of support, plus rocks dont like to hit tubes they like to go around them and hit the metal behind the tubes...

just my 02

I wish I was in CA I would be joining this party

Rangerx's Exo cage doesnt count, its too well done and easy on a Ranger :)

I can work with any dates, i'll let you guys decide then i'll keep that date open.

Rios called me today and told me about this. Room for one more Explorer??? I can just tow it up there with the interior out and camp out in the RV in Steve's parents front yard for a few days. I think I need a cage.....in light of recent events.

Oh, I think it would go faster if persons who are real good at doing a certain step, like bending tube, do that for everyone, or at least be in charge of that step. Along those lines, I would imagine a few of us are much better at welding than the rest. I don't mind welding, but it would go a lot faster if someone took over that part who was actually good at welding. I realize one would get pretty good at it after welding up an entire cage, but that could take some time.

Tom Rios, could you pull the carpet up and look at how well the cage held up where it mounts to the body? I know the exposed parts did great!

Sure, I'll get some tomorrow. I'm pretty sure nothing moved. When are you posting the closeups you took of the roof?

Seems like they found the problem. The EDIS module was crushed. It was on the front, behind the headlight, on the passenger side that got crushed. It cost $385.00 new. I figured I buy it new then used. You never know about these electronic components. I test it tomorrow.

I'd like to add some protection to my front bumper while the bender is available too. Does not have to be at the same time, but I thought it could be a good learning experience.

Brian not to sure on paking the RV on lawn...The city dosn't look to kindly at people parking on there lawn. It's against the law acually there:confused: No parking on the street from 3am to 6am either. What can I say..it's a goofy city.:dunno:

So how much tube to we need?

100 ft for each of the 3 explorers and maybe 60+ for the 2 Rangers.

440-460ft total?

I am in as manual labor;)

Ignition module behind the fender (why am I not surprised? I suggested this earlier)!! Dont buy new, they never go bad on these gen II trucks.

If I was coming to the party I would figure these cages would likely get tack welded in place for now, and as time allows some good beads layed down, but I would think each of you could do the final welding at a later date?

Man I wish the BII was in CA, a cage is my next project and I could use some team work on this sucker!

You guys need to make some metal plates with the So Cal club name laser cut in them and install one on each of these cages :)

I gave Totten a call.

For HREW 1 1/2 .120 wall $1.57 a foot:D

They come in 20' or 24'

BTW, you could save some weight and use 1.5" tube for portions of the cage that isn't critical..

When are we getting the tube? I might be in...and if I am, I'll only need enough to fill this.

Maybe we should have two cage building parties, the second one at my house. My Yuppie neighbors would love it. I have plenty of room for four or five Explorers in my back yard.

Well if Steve's dad's place falls through... we can have it here. :D
