i still wanna know what the ball joint are gonna be in the lowers

im hoping that after i get the truck back this sunday, the uppers will be done within a few weeks. he still has to weld the top plate on one lower and press in the BJ, the other is completely done. im thinking about 3 weeks to have all the parts done, including steering as long as no major ploblems com up. then a weekend for install and its good to go. hopefull will be in the dezert at the end of april.

and at the moment, the lowers have and aftermarket ford BJ, he had them and will work just fine for now. when the time comes, i will look at other options.

oh ok, check out dixon im pretty sure they make an explorer clevis steering kit that can be ordered to whatever extension you need

what the heck is that?

its new steering that replaces the weaker ball and socket style inner joint that have been know to fail under harsh conditions, instead it uses a heim inner joint which is much stronger and also has beefier clevis

heres the dixon one i was talking about:

and here is a camburg one:

ok i get it now.. something i dont think i'll need for offroading unless i start jumping it like you guys

ya the one camburg makes is stout...i've seen it on their race truck

mock up pics. going to have to trim the fender lip for clearance. will fully cycle like 17ish, will be strapped/bumped abour 15ish.

That looks so much wider then 4.5" more then stock. Definately gonna need a beefed up tie rod with that kind of length. If you got some wheels with less backspacing would they tuck into the fenders better or would it cause clearance issues elsewhere?

it came out to about 5'' over actually. that is pretty much at full bump, so i think if i trim a bit off the bottom of the fender it will be ok. i am going to look for some other wheels, but im not sure if with the lift spindle i can run less Backspace or not. i have to check it out. i dont mind the width, as long as i can get it to bump 100% without problems.

lookin gooooood, looks like it will actually work better with that taller spindle too

i need that much travel and to keep my 4wd drive.. nice so far.

Zhanx, the Dixon kit and others are coming close to those travel numbers with 4x4 (High angle CV's = $$$$$)
it will only get better as more kits come out.
Remember its easy to increase the travel numbers at the wheel when you go wider.....

looks sweet...so thats a vertical uniball you're running right...so far so gooooood

after my truck is done, there is supposedly a guy with a 4wd ranger who is going to see if this will work. using these arms, and extending his CVs. i didnt get the all the info about it, but with the travel limited a little more, it might work. and the uppers are BJs too. they way the look is kinda hard to explian but they do articulate plenty.
