RockRangerII the build up.

Link to the guy on pirate?

Looks good man! Could you install the filler in the bed? I would look into that if I were you. Maybe one of those billit doors for it too.

I need to go hit up napa and get a piece of filler hose tubing to extend it. Then I will cut a hole in the side of the bed and mount a TJ gas filler deal. trckmagic from this site did it a few years ago and I am going to try it as well. I am hoping for now I can just pull it into the wheel well and get some gas into it. The truck isnt a daily driver so I only have to gas it when I go wheeling so even if it is a PIA for a few trips I think I can live with it.

Edit: I also dont want to spend a whole lot on makeing it nice as the bed already has a few dents in it and will probably be getting tubed out here pretty soon. R ight now i am just trying to get as much done before moab. After moab then I will work on teh next round of mods.

Ohh, I remember now. I thought from your last post that you were going to leave it like that. Thanks for the link.

Well it depends on if gas will go in or not with how it is now :D Also depends on how much time I have between now and moab to fix it. With the rate I am going it will probably still be the same way it is now. However when I get to moab it will probably have the same tank of gas in it that I will put in it tommorow. The truck just doesnt get driven much other then to-from wheeling trips. I am trailering to maob so I dont have to worry about that.

The big question is do I try and build a cage or build the winch bumper first? Not sure If I will be able to get both done before moab. That and Aussie locker is back ordered on 8.8 lockers so I am trying to decide which way to go on locking the rear. Wish I would have seen that before I ordered it :banghead: If I cant get it in the next few weeks then I might cancel it and just weld up the spider gears and deal with the squeeling tires again.

Good I need to borrow your f250 with the lumber rack then next week so I can go buy the full lengths of tubing so I can build my cage. Does Saturday work for you? :D

Just build a simple mount for the winch like Jefe did at first, and get that cage done ;)

Sure, no problem.

Another vote for a cage here...then build Bill a new ladder rack with the bender :p

Where do you get your metal? There is a place on Ronson Rd in Kearny Mesa, Industrial Metal Supply. I always get my stuff there because its close, and its all indoors so the stock is clean and rust free.

so how much was the BII gas tank mod after all was said and done, i gotta get my truck done so i can go play in the mud, but its either 302 and all that, or relocated exhaust and gas tank so i can put in the second case, and moving the tank to the back seems to be the cheapest so far, if you could help i would greatly appreciate it

Brian- I have been getting my plate at IMS but the tube I get at california metals in El Cajon. IMS doesnt have a good selection of TUBE but they do of PIPE. I wish IMS did as they are about 2 miles from my house

Full foot-

I paid $40 for the tank. I have about $15 is steel and hardware into the skidplates/ mounts(most of it was free). The fuel line parts I have about $50-$60 in it. I reused my ranger fuel pump for now. A few bucks in wire and loom to extend the wires. Probably $30 or so into modifiying my exhaust. The exhaust is hacked together currently. It all needs to be rerounted but that will have to wait till after moab. Might be a few things I am missing but that is most of it. Just make sure you hook the lines back together right otherwise it wont start. Dont ask me how I know that though.

any way you could take a picture of the complete area, like a ground up view (reverse birds eye?) , i just wanna see exactly how the tank is mounted, if each lip of the tank is supported by a metal "shelf, sorta like a CJ tank, or its its completely supported by the straps(IE straps holding the weight) , im more a visual learner

I basicallt built a giant box/skidplate that the gas tank fit into. Then I welded angleiron acroos teh front and back of it. On the back the angle iron is welded to the skidplate then bolts to the frame in holes that the bumber bolts to. For the front I built an angle iron cross member that bolts to both frame rails then the angle iron on the skid plate bolts to that. The straps hold the tank down against the bottom of skid plate. It is very similar to how the kilby gastank skid is done on my girlfriends cj7. I just added another cross member up front so I would have a place to bolt it to.

Ill see what I can do about pictures but Im not real sure what you are loking for.

appreciate it, prety much what you described, ive seen the gas tank skid, but the mounting locations front and rear of tank, pretty much what emcompasses around it

also, did you have to remove the spare tire holder?, i just removed my spare tire (since well i really cant use it) and hte tire hanger stuff is still there and dont know what to do with it

yup the spare is gone. I dont know if the ranger and explorer setup is the same or different. The ranger one is about 6 bolts and everything is gone. I probably wont be able to get pictures till next weeknd though for you.

it looks like the haynes manual shows hte bolts, gimme a minute and ill post

im guessing the two bolts on each side of the frame ,and then the two bolt in the center of that rearmost crossmember

am i correct? thats from the explorer manual i have

Well I got the truck back driveable again today. A few problems but hopefully i can resolve them next weekend. The giggest is I cant get gas into the gas tank with the way it is setup right now :banghead: Luckly I put about 8 gallons in it so I am ok for a while. Plus the gas guage isnt working. I am thinking the float is hitting the side of the tank and wont go all the way up.

To combat the filler neck problem I went to napa and picked up a foot long piece of 2" filler hose neck so I can extend the one I have now. It is NAPA part # 1045 It runs about $15 a foot and I think they are supose to sell it only in 3 ft sections but I talked him into selling me just a foot. Hopefully I can get that taken care of next weekend so I can get gas in the truck.

Also while I had the bed off and access uner it was easy to get to I bolted down a box I had bought a few months ago. Its not to big but it should have enough space to stuff a few spare parts and tools while on the trail.

Anyway on to a few pics.

Fist is the box that I bolted to the bed.

Second is just a final shot with the bed mounted and the departure off teh rear.

The third is a picture next to my brothers ranger just for an idea of height. His truck has 31"s and otherwise is stock. Just to give an idea of how much lift my SAS gave to my truck. Just enough :D
