So, remove the rear driveshaft, put it in 4wd, lock the front hubs, and drive around in front wheel drive..

Well it would help if he actually had gears and axles in it first :p

Well then..

Dollars to doughnuts that driveshaft is bent or out of balance. You did say it was a junkyard shaft, right? That small of a difference in the angles of the output and diff shouldn't vibrate that bad on a driveshaft that long. Make sure that the driveshaft is straight and that the ujoints are in phase. That would leave the balancing of the shaft. Check the small, easy stuff first before you go moving pinion angles and such.

Sec,

Check these out, I saw them in 4W&OR. Kinda pricey but cheaper then a new shaft.

Can you still install your V8 shaft and see if it drives better?
Or do like Tom said.

If you installed a V6 driveshaft and rear vibrations occur, guess what its probably the front rotors (kidding)

With 4.88's and 35's my out-of-round driveshaft vibrations occured at 30mph and then again at 60+. And it felt like the truck was going to shake itself apart.

I think Section was driving around with the 4.0 driveshaft fine before the SAS/SOA. So I'm thinking it must have been some change during the SAS/SOA process.

Although I guess there is a possibility that he could have bent or kinked the driveshaft during the SAS/SOA.

:p

Geeez

Okay.

It went like this:

There was a vibration.

I checked the normal things.

Lug Nuts.

Wheel Adapters.

Spindle Nuts.

Driveshaft Nuts.

Etc.

So, it must be the driveshaft is too short now.

So I put in a new (used) driveshaft.

Still vibrates... getting worse.

That night I was laying in bed... thinking.. "I wonder if anyone tightened down the rear u-bolts after the SOA". So the next morning I go out and check. They were kinda loose. So I tighten them. Drive it. Still vibrates. Bad. Swap on the 33s. Vibrates. Take out the Warrior shackles. Still vibrates.

So this morning I figured maybe Jefe knows what he is talking about and I'll try the old shaft again. Now this old shaft is a nice rebuilt one with bomb ass u-joints and only about 5k on it.

So I swap it back in. Smooooth like butter. :D The new (used) driveshaft must have been bent.

So, I imagine the orginial vibration was because the rear u-bolts were loose. So I'm hoping I can throw the WARs back in and it will still be fine.

I'm a little embarrased here. :p

faaantastic

Who authorized you to do this, the SAS isn't done! Get back to it!

I've been so discouraged with this thing.. I thought sleeping might help. And you were out of the country when I needed you most! :D

You're welcome, Jefe.

So, maybe I should get out in the garage and work now. :)

Oh man big projects like this can get discouraging.
When doing the 5.0L into the BII there were so many times when I jsut couldnt make it work, keep dropping the wrench, or strip the bolt or whatever...lose all patience throw hands up, ask is it worth it, etc.....

take a break, sleep, couple days off whatever, come back with a new approach, goes smooth.
Same thing happened when I did the 97 engine into the 95 truck
Same thing happened to brett with his recent SOHC conversion (which he is now driving BTW)
Its just natural when you take on a project like this, but there is always a solution :)

Glad you go the vibration figured out fer shizzle! one less thing....

agreed  It's worce when you've got a wife that says "Honey what are you doing on the computer?" and I say "ordering more parts for the truck" and then I just get this " "

but it's all worth it when you get it done, and people are crawling all over your truck telling you how awsome it is. Or even that simple stop light where some one gives you a thumps up

Ordering is the easy part.. FINDING the correct part is the royal PITA.
